Cognitive Health: Standout Trend at Vitafoods 2017
16 May 2017 --- Products aimed at improving brain health and cognitive functions played a starring role at Vitafoods Europe last week. According to data provided by Innova Market Insights, brain health launches are predominantly being found in the supplements category. From 2012 to 2016, the number increased by 20% in Europe, accounting for 21% of supplements launches in 2016. The number of food launches with a brain health claim remains limited, however, with a relatively modest growth of +5% from 2015 to 2016.
Go Green
Go Green launched Brain Booster with Cognizin, which it described as a “brain activator.” Cognizin is a branded form of Citicoline, a natural substance found in every cell of the body and vital to brain health. It has protective and neuro-regenerative properties, stimulates the production of phospholipids, which are essential for neuronal membranes, and assists in brain regeneration. The products aims to enhance focus and concentration and support healthy memory function.
Akay USA
Akay USA LLC launched, a "new generation" bioavailable curcumin with enhanced "free" curcuminoids absorption (45.5-fold), tissue distribution, blood-brain-barrier permeability and enhanced efficacy supported by peer-reviewed publications and clinical trials on heart, liver and brain health. Sustained-release CurQfen (natural, non-GMO, allergen-free, Halal & Kosher) is free from color issues and food grade, the company reported.
Balchem
Balchem introduced Albion I76 OxyEnergy. OxyEnergy uses ferrochel, a patented iron bisglycinate chelated form with improved bioavailability (four times more bioavailable than ferrous sulphate) for efficient support of red blood cell and hemoglobin production, oxygen transport, enhanced cognitive function and reduction of fatigue.
