US-based Perfect Day has entered into a partnership with Onego Bio. Perfect Day will use its bioprocess and strain engineering abilities to help Onego Bio bring its ovalbumin, animal-free egg product, Bioalbumen, to market faster. The new eggs will be available for use in the confectionery and baking industries, as well as the protein supplement segment and sports nutrition space.

“Queer Eye” stars partner for new pet food offering. Marinova, a producer of the bioactive compound fucoidan – a nutrient present in brown seaweed – will invest US$5 million to expand its Tasmania, Australia, manufacturing facility. The investment will allow the company to conduct research, support and fund research and development projects and discover and adapt new technologies to help improve manufacturing processes. It will also allow for the adoption of research into new commercial products and outcomes.

Farlong Nutraceutical plans to conduct a study on its flavonoid compound product, LifeFlower Breviscapine, on cognitive health. The controlled, randomized and double-blind, parallel study will study the short and long-term memory effects of the nutrient over 90 days. The flavonoid, extracted from Erigeron breviscapus, has already been shown to enhance cognition and memory.

Kraft Heinz will partner with start-up, StartLife. The alliance was announced at the Future Food Tech trade show in London earlier this week. This marks the first time Kraft Heinz has worked with an accelerator program. The company expects that the partnership will allow it to produce healthier, more sustainable and clean label products with lower salts, sugars and fats.

In brief: Nutrition Regulation and Legislation
Leaders from more than 70 health organizations, including charities, medical organizations and health professionals, signed a letter calling for the UK’s new Prime Minister, Liz Truss, to uphold the high fat, salt and sugar (HFSS) regulations and policies that were intended to keep HFSS foods out of children’s diets. The letter, written by the Obesity Alliance, included signatories from the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK and the British Medical Association.Farlong Nutraceutical will study the impact of its extract offering on cognitive health.

The US Senate unanimously passed bill number H.R. 4693. The bill, titled the Global Malnutrition Prevention and Treatment Act, upholds the US Congress’s decision to pass it in April. Its passage comes at a time when world leaders have gathered to address global malnutrition at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly. The UN intends to address the global food and nutrition security crises and assess its own goal of ending world hunger by 2030.

Jonathan Van Ness and Antoni Porowski of the Netflix show “Queer Eye” have partnered with the pet lifestyle brand Yummers to launch a line of premium pet food “mix-ins.” The mix-ins come in both “gourmet” and “functional” forms, and there are offerings for dogs and cats. They are available in Beef Liver, Chicken, Salmon and Sweet Potato, Cheddar Cheese or and Turkey and Cranberry flavors and can target specific dietary needs such as digestive and heart health or skin and coat.
