Webinar Preview: Symrise to showcase groundbreaking research on cranberry prebiotic effect
11 Mar 2024 --- As the importance of gut health is increasingly recognized, the quest for innovative solutions is critical. Seizing this opportunity, Symrise, a global leader in flavor and nutrition, reveals that its polyphenol-rich cranberry extract, Prebiocran, is a key offering in the microbiome space because of its prebiotic effect.
Ahead of the company’s upcoming webinar, “Groundbreaking science on gut health: The prebiotic effect of cranberry polyphenols,” we explore some of the disruptive insights derived from extensive research and collaboration to be presented.
According to Symrise, the foundation of this approach lies in understanding the intricate relationship between diet, gut microbiota and overall health. Unhealthy dietary habits can disrupt metabolic responses and perturb the balance of the gut microbiome.
However, emerging evidence suggests that polyphenols, found abundantly in cranberries, possess prebiotic properties that can positively influence gut health.
First foray into the space
Prebiocran was launched in May 2023. At that time, Fabrice Bohin, President of the Naturals Business Unit within Symrise Food and Beverage, told Nutrition Insight that the offering is the company’s first for the microbiome space and the ingredient leverages its existing cranberry-based offerings within the diana food product range.
“This is the first day of a new arena for Symrise. We have boosted our business in health, where we are growing by double digits,” Bohin remarked.
Symrise states that its commitment to advancing scientific knowledge in this field is exemplified by its collaboration with research institutions, such as the Institute of Nutrition and Functional Foods and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
The partnership established Phenobio+, a five-year Chair of research dedicated to exploring the potential prebiotic effect of fruit and vegetable polyphenols, particularly cranberry polyphenols.
Proven health benefits
Through a collaborative effort, researchers have delved deep into understanding how cranberry polyphenols interact with the gut microbiome, enhance intestinal barrier function and promote metabolic health.
Moreover, research indicates that Prebiocran specifically influences the composition and functionality of gut microbiota and it has also been proven to support the gut barrier function, which plays a crucial role in metabolic health.
Symrise says the webinar will unveil the systemic approach behind this transformative research initiative and provide invaluable insights into the mechanisms underlying the polyphenol prebiotic effect.
Innovation opportunities
The company also points out that the webinar will present some of the significant results related to the prebiotic effect of cranberry polyphenols and shed light on their potential for gut health and microbiome applications.
Innova Market Insights’ data suggest that between October 2018 and September 2023, sports nutrition and supplement products incorporating prebiotics grew by 2% annually, with Europe leading in product introductions.
Join the webinar to learn more about Prebriocan’s formulation versatility and the opportunities to innovate in science-backed gut health solutions.
