Bioiberica backs collagen, hyaluronic acid and enzymes for holistic menopausal health
Key takeaways
- Postmenopausal women are twice as likely to experience lower back pain as premenopausal women, reflecting how estrogen decline affects multiple body systems.
- A women-only trial of Collavant n2 showed a 44.8% improvement in knee pain scores and a 10.4% increase in pain-free walking distance within six weeks.
- Around 80% of histamine intolerance sufferers are female, making digestive comfort a key but often overlooked pillar of menopause support.

Women’s expectations for menopause support have shifted away from symptom management and toward preventative solutions.
Monica Gomez Navarro, marketing manager of Branded Ingredients at Bioiberica, tells Nutrition Insight that previously, menopause conversations focused on managing individual symptoms like hot flashes, but today, consumers are thinking broadly and further ahead.
She points to research revealing that many women prioritize preventative health management. “This change in mindset is grounded in a growing awareness of how estrogen decline affects multiple systems simultaneously. The musculoskeletal system is a clear example: as hormone levels fall, women can face reduced bone density, muscle loss, and increased joint pain and stiffness.”
“Joint discomfort is among the most frequently reported symptoms of menopause, and postmenopausal women are twice as likely to experience lower back pain compared to their premenopausal counterparts.”
Furthermore, falling estrogen levels can impact collagen production, which contributes to skin thinning, dryness, and elasticity loss. Women are learning how these symptoms are connected to menopause and seeking science-backed solutions that address their full experience.
Addressing main menopausal symptoms
According to Gomez Navarro, there is not one trending ingredient in the menopause space since they are varied, like the interconnected health issues that they can support.
“In the past, the menopause support category was dominated by traditional herbal remedies containing ingredients like evening primrose oil, ginseng, St. John’s wort, or red clover.”
Gomez Navarro says Collavant n2 was the first ingredient globally to receive certification under the NutraStrong Collagen Verified program.“Recently, however, as both women’s health and healthy aging have taken on mainstream visibility, the market has boomed with new ingredients entering the arena and a surge in fresh scientific studies carried out to explore how supplementation can support specific health areas affected by menopause.”
She adds that Bioiberica’s biologically derived ingredients address three main areas linked to menopause: joint and muscle health, skin vitality, and digestive comfort.
“For joint support, Collavant n2 is our native (undenatured) type II collagen, clinically effective at just 40 mg/day. A women-only randomized controlled trial demonstrated a 44.8% improvement in WOMAC pain score, greater knee range of motion, and a 10.4% increase in pain-free walking distance — all within six weeks.”
Bioiberica’s Mobilee, a hyaluronic acid matrix ingredient, supports joint and muscle health at 80 mg/day. In vitro studies have demonstrated its potential to balance muscle cell turnover and protect against cell death, making it particularly relevant for peri- and post-menopausal women seeking muscle health support.
Gomez Navarro says that for skin health, Bioiberica offers Dermial, which combines hyaluronic acid (>60%), collagen, and complementary glycosaminoglycans, which attract and bind water. A 12-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial found that participants taking Dermial 60 mg/day resulted in improvements in hydration and smoothness as well as wrinkle reduction. Women over 55 especially had notable results, she adds.
“Rounding out the portfolio, DAOgest delivers a diamine oxidase enzyme for histamine intolerance — a condition that affects women disproportionately, with around 80% of sufferers being female.”
Building stronger trust
The menopause category has enjoyed momentum, notes Gomez Navarro, but it still needs elevation to reach the level of credibility seen in more established supplement segments. This can be accomplished with stronger and more evidence-based approaches, she urges.
“For menopause products in particular, the field needs not just more clinical data, but higher-quality, more targeted research — covering appropriate dosages, relevant populations and, crucially, mechanistic clarity.”
“Ingredient quality is the other piece of the puzzle. Even the best clinical evidence is undermined if the ingredient in the finished product doesn’t match what was studied. Independent certification schemes are beginning to address this — the NutraStrong Collagen Verified program, run by the Collagen Stewardship Alliance, is a strong example.”
The program is noted as the “first” independent certification system that is dedicated to checking the identity, source, safety, and quality of collagen ingredients. Gomez Navarro points out that this program certified Collavant n2, which was “the first” ingredient globally to achieve this.
“That combination of targeted science and independently verified quality is what will move menopause nutrition from loosely regulated wellness products into mainstream supplements that are taken seriously,” she adds.
Invest in women’s health
Since credibility is essential to take menopause solutions to the next level, Gomez Navarro says that it ultimately comes down to the quality and specificity of the science behind an ingredient.
Dermial, taken at 60 mg/day, showed measurable improvements in skin hydration, smoothness, and wrinkle reduction after 12 weeks.“Today’s supplement consumers are better informed than ever — they’re scrutinizing labels, interrogating claims, and seeking out clinical evidence. Broad or vague assertions simply don’t hold up, which means brands need ingredients underpinned by robust, targeted scientific research.”
“Women’s health has historically been under-resourced in clinical research, and that legacy creates real challenges. A study conducted on a general adult population may not adequately reflect the needs of women in perimenopause or beyond.”
She points out an example of a recent women-only randomized controlled trial for Collavant n2. Instead of extrapolating from efficacy data, the trial showed specifically what the ingredient delivers to women.
“Getting the dosage right matters just as much as demonstrating an effect — consumers and brands alike need confidence that a product works at the serving size on the label. This kind of precision is what allows brands to make meaningful claims and build genuine, lasting trust with their customers,” concludes Gomez Navarro.
Industry responses to consumer shift
Previously, Nutrition Insight spoke with Gnosis by Lesaffre, Lallemand Health Solutions, and Lallemand Bio-Ingredients, discussing how menopause support has shifted from symptom relief to holistic solutions.
We also recently spoke with Sirio Europe, which is focusing on menopause products that deliver natural, non-hormonal support for hot flashes, bones, sleep, mood, and energy. The company focuses on delivery format innovations while using supportive ingredients, such as soy isoflavones and evening primrose oil.
In a separate interview, ProBiotix Health highlighted how women seek long-term health beyond menopause symptom support. The company spotlighted clinically backed ingredients like isoflavones, evening primrose oil, and probiotic strain LPLDL, which are gaining traction among the 1.2 billion women entering menopause by 2030.
AB-Biotics also shared the importance of non-hormonal solutions, such as probiotic formulations, to support women’s estrobolome to help maintain estrogen levels and support vaginal microbiome health.
