Nestlé to explore strategic options for Skin Health unit, reaffirms importance of Health Science division

20 Sep 2018 --- Nestlé is exploring strategic options for its Skin Health unit, after the company’s board concluded that the future growth opportunities of Nestlé Skin Health increasingly lie outside the group’s strategic scope. The company has come under increased pressure from shareholders to overhaul its strategy following disappointing 2017 results, with the company reporting its lowest sales growth in more than two decades. The strategic review is expected to be completed by mid-2019.

02 Jul 2018 --- Skin is the first line of defense against the assaults of nature, stress and time. But it needs nutrients just as the rest of the body does. A new randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial provides stronger evidence for the protective role of algal-derived astaxanthin against skin deterioration caused by ultraviolet (UV) light. FujiFilm’s research group conducted the research using Algatech Ltd.’s natural astaxanthin, already formulated in their branded supplement Astots.

Infant food allergy linked to genetics and skin exposure to food, dust and wipes

19 Apr 2018 --- Food allergy is triggered by perfect storm of genetics and skin exposure to infant wipes, dust and food, according to a new Northwestern Medicine study. Infant and childhood food allergy, whose cause has long been a mystery, has now been linked to a mix of environmental and genetic factors that must coexist to trigger the allergy. The factors contributing to food allergy include the genetics that alter skin absorbency, use of infant cleansing wipes that leave soap on the skin, skin exposure to allergens in dust and skin exposure to food from those providing infant care. Food allergy is triggered when these factors occur together.

Façade? British Nutrition Foundation questions benefit of skin beauty nutraceuticals

14 Feb 2018 --- Although there is a growing market for orally consumed beauty supplements that promise “youthful,” “firm” and “glowing” skin, the evidence to support some of the ingredients used in these popular, and often costly, products is limited. This is according to a review of published research conducted by the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF). The review concludes that nutraceuticals for skin may not add further benefit to the effects already obtained from a healthy diet.

Vitamin D could be simple key to assisting burn healing

06 Nov 2017 --- Patients with severe burns who have higher levels of vitamin D recover more successfully than those with lower levels, according to a study presented at the Society for Endocrinology annual conference in Harrogate, UK. This study is the first to investigate the role of vitamin D in recovery from burn injury and suggests that vitamin D supplementation may be a simple and cost-effective treatment to enhance burn healing.

For skincare consumers, feeling healthy trumps looking young: Lycored survey

10 Oct 2017 --- Only 14 percent of consumers list appearing younger as one of their reasons for using skincare products, and only 18 percent are motivated by a desire to look attractive. This is according to a new report from Lycored exploring the growing popularity of supplements for skincare. By contrast, 79 percent said they used products to keep their skin healthy, and 62 percent said they used products to feel good about themselves.
