“Pivotal milestone”: Jarrow Formulas enters gummy market with probiotic offering
14 Jan 2022 ---- Jarrow Formulas has launched its Probiotic+ Gummies, a new product line targeting digestive, immune and gut health. This is the first time the company ventures its products into gummy form.
“The introduction of Probiotic+ Gummies marks a pivotal milestone as Jarrow’s first probiotic available in a highly-efficacious gummy form,” highlights the company, which is seeking to tap into a fast-growing trend on gut health, spurred by consumer awareness.
The items are Probiotic+ Immune Gummies, Probiotic Duo Gummies and Probiotic+ Prebiotic Gummies.
“The new Probiotic+ Gummies come at an ideal time when gut and immune health are top-of-mind. After a stressful year, a nationwide survey by Jarrow found that one in four people are prioritizing their gut and immune health in the new year,” says the company.
Of the respondents who reported feeling more stressed in 2021, more than half shared they are taking preventative measures to support their gut health, and one out of five respondents stated keeping their immune health in check as part of their wellness resolution for 2022.
Innovation is driving companies to experiment with various delivery formats.
Prioritizing probiotics
All three items contain two clinically-studied probiotic strains Bacillus coagulans and Bacillus subtilis, which aim to alleviate stomach distress, aid in digestion and nutrient absorption, improve gut barrier and support immune response. The probiotic strains are resistant to gastric acid, which allows them to deliver effective regulation directly within the gut.
Innova Market Insights has described “Gut Glory” as the number six Top Trend for 2022, as consumers become increasingly interested in digestive as well as immune health. This has seen an observed increase in demand for probiotics, which have even been described as having the potential to “fight some of the most concerning issues facing humanity.”
The Probiotic+ Immune Gummies are touted to promote a healthy digestive system as well as support the immune system, including vitamin C and D, as well as zinc. The Probiotic+ Prebiotic Gummy contains a xylooligosaccharide (XOS) prebiotic aiming to improve digestion, while The Probiotic Duo Gummies target digestive and immune health.
Innova Market Insights has noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has permanently boosted consumer interest in immune health, with younger generations expected to drive “staying power” within the immunity space. The demand for immunity-boosting items has also seen consumers beginning to favor natural products that meet sustainability demands.

Exciting formats
Jarrow’s probiotic items have largely been available in capsules and this is the first time the company has ventured into gummy format. This reflects an increased innovation across the nutraceutical space, shaking up delivery formats.
Though supplement use is on the rise, pill fatigue is noted to be a real concern among today’s consumers, driving the development of chewable delivery formats.
Companies are thus focusing on texture, as younger generations are seen to look for new experiences in their supplements. This has seen the development of pellets, capsules and gummies, which so far appear to be the most popular.
