O Positiv unveils hormone-free menopause care supplement Meno
10 May 2022 --- Women’s wellness brand O Positiv is launching Meno, a supplement to support women experiencing the effects of menopause. The product is said to combat common symptoms, including hot flashes, night sweats and mood swings.
Meno’s key ingredients are ashwagandha, chasteberry, black cohosh and vitamins B6 and D3.
Co-founder of Meno, Mary Kay Bitton, tells NutritionInsight that the supplement was inspired by her own experience going through menopause following a hysterectomy.
“I experienced every symptom very quickly – the hot flashes, the moodiness, struggling with weight gain, the edginess and so on. The worst part about menopause for me were the hot flashes, the constant feeling on edge and just overall not feeling like myself,” Bitton says.
She describes that after negative experiences with hormone therapy, she looked for alternative solutions. This prompted O Positiv’s venture into menopause care. “It’s possible to be unaffected by menopause symptoms, live your life and feel great.”
“We ultimately want to have something readily available for every woman and their various stages of life.”
Taking on new demographics
Following the success of O Positiv’s Flo gummy vitamins to provide relief for symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), the brand has since ventured into categories such as immunity, digestion and beauty from within.
“While we’ve succeeded in creating effective products for Millennials like Flo, we’re now ready to tackle an entirely new demographic.”
Bitton implores that a change in attitude is necessary within the scope of women’s health: “Menopause doesn’t mean that you’re getting old – it’s a change in your body and it decides to do it when it’s going to do it.”
According to Britton, more products are on the way to support various women’s health concerns: “O Positiv has a ton of innovation in the pipeline – we’re constantly innovating as we work toward addressing and destigmatizing issues that they deal with at different stages of their lives.”
Dispelling taboos
Bitton finds much opportunity within the menopause care space, which she says has been neglected in the past due to taboos.
“We don’t talk about menopause much because it seems like we’re admitting that we’re getting older. Menopause is viewed as embarrassing and it shouldn’t be. This is a time period where you shouldn’t be sweating the small stuff and should feel comfortable in your own skin instead of dealing with debilitating menopause symptoms.”
She describes breaking down taboos around menopause as paying it forward to future generations: “By normalizing topics like menopause, we can educate ourselves and feel good about these experiences. We’re not only doing this for ourselves, but we’re doing this for our daughters. They won't have to deal with this stigma when they get older.”
Natural solutions to natural problems
Bitton explains that the brand takes a more relaxed approach in marketing and B2C communications. “Supplements have traditionally had a more serious connotation tied to them, which is why we take a fun approach. We want to get a laugh and smile out of everyone while ultimately making them feel great.”
Bitton says she shares the rising consumer interest with natural and botanical ingredients and solutions: “I’ve always been fascinated by how plants can help solve problems. Ashwagandha has been huge for me.”
“There’s a brain fog that comes along with menopause and ashwagandha has really helped with my memory and clarity. It also helps take the edge off,” she adds.
Meno also contains botanical ingredients which aid in hormonal regulation.
“Chasteberry comes into play to help balance hormones and achieve that nice, even keel feeling. Black cohosh also helps balance hormones and is the key ingredient to fight hot flashes and night sweats,” details Bitton.
She continues that each ingredient has been independently clinically studied: “Each claim surrounding Meno has been validated and supported with the appropriate level dictated by the individual studies.”
