Designs for Health launches Akkermansia Pro GLP-1 Probiotic for metabolic health
Key takeaways
- Designs for Health has unveiled a daily synbiotic combining live Akkermansia muciniphila and ADM’s BPL1 postbiotic to naturally support GLP-1 production and metabolic health.
- The product utilizes a patented oxygen-free manufacturing technology to protect the oxygen-sensitive bacterial strains and ensure their stable delivery into the gut.
- This launch aligns with a growing market trend of using prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics to target the gut-metabolic axis and stimulate weight loss pathways.

Designs for Health has launched Akkermansia Pro GLP-1 Probiotic, a once-daily probiotic and postbiotic formula to support the gut-metabolic axis, natural GLP-1 production in the body, and healthy weight management. The product blends live Akkermansia muciniphila with the clinically studied Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis BPL1 postbiotic by ADM.
Based on patented oxygen-free technology, the formula is designed to preserve oxygen-sensitive strains and ensure stability and delivery of clinically relevant organisms, highlights the brand.
“As interest in GLP-1 pathways and metabolic health continues to grow, both consumers and practitioners are looking for solutions that support these systems naturally and comprehensively,” says Dr. David Brady, chief medical officer at Designs for Health.
“At Designs for Health, we’re committed to translating emerging science into meaningful clinical solutions, and Akkermansia Pro GLP-1 Probiotic was developed to support the important relationship between gut health and metabolism using clinically studied, research-backed ingredients designed to promote microbiome balance, GLP-1 activity, and overall metabolic wellness.”
Keystone probiotic strain
Designs for Health highlights that specific keystone bacterial strains considered foundational to the gut microbiome may play a vital role in supporting appetite regulation, blood sugar metabolism, gut barrier integrity, and overall metabolic resilience.
The brand dubs A. muciniphila as one of these “keystone probiotic strains” naturally present in the human gut microbiome. It has been studied for its role in supporting gut barrier function, microbial diversity, and the body’s natural GLP-1 activity.
The company notes that ADM’s heat-treated BPL1 postbiotic is a patented and clinically studied postbiotic developed through advanced microbiome research to support healthy body composition, help reduce abdominal fat, and promote healthy blood sugar metabolism and insulin function.
“Together, these two clinically studied ingredients work synergistically to support a balanced gut microbiome, digestive comfort, and metabolic health,” highlights Designs for Health.
Expanding biotics portfolio
Addressing the growing demand for advanced gut health and metabolic support solutions, Designs for Health has expanded its portfolio of various probiotic formulations including Complete Commensal Probiotic and Anaerostipes Probiotic.
The company touts its Complete Commensal Probiotic as an “industry first” to deliver five keystone commensal strains, including A. muciniphila, sourced from a single, “exceptionally healthy” super donor.
As consumers continue to seek out natural remedies for weight loss, research continues to explore the connection between the gut microbiome and metabolic health.
It notes that this is also the first probiotic on the market to feature the rare, hard-to-deliver strains Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and Roseburia intestinalis.
“Rather than simply passing through the gut, these patent-pending “ecosystem architect” strains cross-feed one another and help the gut produce butyrate — a compound essential to gut barrier integrity, immune support, and metabolism — to rebuild the microbiome from the foundation up,” details Designs for Health.
“Together, these formulas provide flexibility to harness the power of the keystone strain A., whether through rebuilding the gut microbiome with Complete Commensal Probiotic or supporting GLP-1 activity, metabolic health, and healthy weight management with Akkermansia Pro GLP-1 Probiotic.”
Gut-metabolic axis
As consumers continue to seek out natural remedies for weight loss, research continues to explore the connection between the gut microbiome and metabolic health.
For example, Greenvit recently debuted its polyphenol-rich gut health nutraceutical Aronvit at Vitafoods Europe in Barcelona, Spain. Studies have demonstrated that the aronia berry ingredient functions as a prebiotic to feed healthy gut bacteria, while also serving as a low-dose modulator of natural GLP-1.
In other related research, a clinical trial evaluated Trpti, Saanroo’s bioavailable form of oleoylethanolamide, in overweight adults. It demonstrated that Trpti promoted modest weight loss and that it targets the gut microbiome by enriching beneficial bacteria A. muciniphila and Faecalibacterium prausnitzii — boosting intestinal barrier function and inflammatory signaling for better immune responses.
