AI skin care: Givaudan’s botanical Chronoglow boasts healthy aging and radiance benefits

18 Mar 2021 --- Givaudan Active Beauty has unveiled an active ingredient called Chronoglow, which employs artificial intelligence (AI) to mimic botanical epigenetic mechanisms and promote healthy aging and radiant skin. 

Chronoglow is crafted by green fractionation, which is a process that reduces the use of auxiliary chemicals, hence boosting the ingredient’s naturality. 

Chronoglow is sourced from Haberlea rhodopensis, which is known as the “resurrection plant.”

Givaudan says it is a “natural cure for the skin,” and able to reverse the effects of aging and improve its radiance.

“We are now able to mimic and reproduce what the plant does in its own cells in the skin. Chronoglow is, therefore, a 100 percent natural and sustainable powerful botanical ingredient, with exclusive benefits of ‘well-aging’ and radiance.”

Top consumer expectation
Skin aging is a major concern for consumers, the company supports. According to Givaudan Active Beauty’s CMI Global Study Results (March 2019), 80 percent of consumers globally are upset when they look older than their actual age, which can also impact their personal life and well-being.

According to the company, Chronoglow positively regulates the skin genetic information without modifying it. It rejuvenates the skin at different cellular levels (from epigenetics to protein expression) and protects skin cells from senescence and oxidation. 

Chronoglow also enhances skin firmness and provides three dimensions of glow, Givaudan says.

According to clinical trials, these improvements include:

• Elasticity improved by up to 8.9 percent after two weeks of use. This is more than three times better than the placebo. This positive impact on the skin elasticity increased during the entire duration of the clinical test, with an increase up to 15.3 percent after two months.
• Luminosity improved by up to 3.8 percent after four weeks and up to +6.4 percent after two months – significantly better than the placebo, by a factor 1.9.
• Radiance improved after two weeks of use by up to 6.1 percent, more than four times better than the placebo. Radiance improved up to 12.5 percent after two months.

“Our researchers have used the power of AI to better represent the clinical results and demonstrate the visual benefits of Chronoglow. They have generated a beauty avatar that represents the significant results of the three dimensions of glow on the face,” the company notes.

Skin care NPD booms
To inspire the beauty industry, Givaudan created Eau de Radiance, a glowing veil to regenerate the skin powered by Chronoglow. 

Only a few drops of this liquid care over the face will rejuvenate and illuminate the skin tone, the company says. Also powered by Ocâline XP and Sophogreen plus, Eau de Radiance will soothe the skin, and offer a second skin protection thanks to Sens’Hyal powder. 

The company has had a prolific year, with numerous launches in the skin care arena. Most recently, it released a cosmetic ingredient created from wild bilberries called Omegablue, which boasts “advanced skin repair” properties. 

Moreover, Givaudan Active Beauty is tapping into the potential of nootropics’ cosmetic properties by unveiling a line of six botanical extracts that benefit the skin. From guarana, ginger, green tea and gotu kola to ginkgo biloba and green coffee, the ingredients are well-known among the industry for their use in food supplements.

Last June, Givaudan Active Beauty also unveiled Koffee’Up, a science-backed premium coffee oil crafted using upcycling techniques. The ingredient is hailed as the “new argan oil” for the beauty industry due to its “myriad of facial skin care benefits” such as hydration, protection and anti-aging.
