Beneo’s sugar beet-based sweet filler binder improves palatability of nutraceutical tablets

02 Nov 2023 | Beneo

At the recent CPhI trade fair in Barcelona, Spain, Beneo exhibited its GalenIQ water-soluble filler binder that delivers a sweet taste. Derived from sugar beets, the ingredient can be used as a filler binder to make tablets in nutraceutical applications. The ingredient’s compression characteristics make it suitable for transforming plant extracts, minerals and probiotics into tablets, while mitigating off-notes in the finished taste profile.

This is Benjamin Ferreir on the show floor of CPHI in Barcelona, and I'm joined by Doctor Michael Black, and he's the head of sales pharma at Veno, speaking to us about a sucrose-based excipient gallon IQ 900.

So can I ask you about your product solution?

What makes it unique and what, what are some of the special functionalities?

Gallon IQ is a water soluble filler binder which has a sweet taste.

It's derived from a sugar beet and it can be used as a filler binder to make tablets in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications.

And also, what are some of the unique challenges that, gallon IQ can overcome and, talk, talk about it in the context of, challenges in the excipient formulation.

Today one of the biggest challenges is if we look at numaceuticals in particular.

You often have plant extracts or minerals, or probiotic materials which are very difficult to tablet because of the nature of them, and gallon IQ because of its very good compression characteristics, enables you to make suitable tablets.

Also, a lot of these products tend to taste bad, and gallon IQ has a sweet.

And it's able to improve the palatability of many formulation types, and, in particular, sachet products or chewable tablets, also in liquid forms and so for the nutraceutical area, it's an excellent filler binder.

And what are some of the interesting developments in the recipients market and how is this continuing to guide your product innovation in this field?

At the moment, what, in fact, I even had a meeting with a customer this morning that was looking for a fuller binder for a plant extract, and they told me that one of the most important factors for them is that all of the components of this product will be plant-based, and that makes gallon IQ a perfect choice because it is obtained from sugar beet.

Which is a renewable sustainable source and therefore is a plant-based material and obviously suitable for all kinds of numaceutical materials where plant-based is important and of course again I say that the beautiful taste of the Gallai cube, which improves the palatability, also very important for consumers.

Thank you very much, Michael, for your insights.

Thank you very much for the.
