07/11/07 Sabinsa Corporation, a leading dietary supplement and food ingredient company based in Piscataway, N.J., and Payson, Utah, has entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with Scientific Food Solutions (SFS) that includes a composition of Comfort C, SFS's branded vitamin C formulation created using proprietary Alkemy technology, and Bioperine, Sabinsa's patented, standardized piperine composition derived from black pepper extract that has been shown to increase the absorption of nutrients.
"We are pleased to be able to license use of our Bioperine ingredient to a company not only committed to innovation and science, but one that also respects the efforts required to develop and secure intellectual property," noted Todd Norton, president, Sabinsa Corporation. "We are confident that this partnership will only strengthen brand awareness for our Bioperine ingredient."
Comfort C is formulated using natural, low lead, USP grade calcium carbonate and vitamin C. Comfort C utilizes a unique patent pending process, which delivers a neutralized vitamin C product far superior to blended alternatives. It combines all-natural ingredients to deliver increased nutrient bioavailability while soothing and neutralizing stomach acids. Comfort C has a neutral pH (7.0) and is an improvement over "buffered" vitamin C alternatives. ET Horn is the exclusive distributor of the company's Alkemy branded products including Comfort C.
"Manufacturers are increasingly looking for clinically validated, highly bioavailable vitamin C formulations, and we feel that there is already strong demand out in the marketplace for this composition," said Gretchen Reece, president, Scientific Food Solutions. "Sabinsa is a company known for its innovation-driven, efficacious ingredients, and we feel confident including Bioperine in this new Comfort C formula."
Bioperine is a standardized piperine composition derived from black pepper extract that has been shown in clinical research to increase the absorption of nutrients in nutritional supplement formulations. Studies have shown vitamin C absorption specifically to be nearly 30 percent higher when administered with Bioperine. Bioperine and its use are protected under U.S. Patent Nos. 5,536,506, 5,744,161, 5,972,382, and 6,054,585; European Patent No. EP0810868; Japanese Patent No. 3953513; Canadian Patent No. CA2247467; with International Patents pending.
