PLT Health Solutions and Alethios accelerate clinical trials for supplement brands

PLT Health Solutions and Alethios have joined forces to speed up and scale the clinical research behind finished formulations for brands while cutting down their associated traditional bottlenecks.

Alethios’ decentralized clinical research platform offers health and wellness brands the ability to bring robust, evidence-backed products to market faster. Meanwhile, PLT offers its ingredient science and clinical claims substantiation, enabling customers to generate formula-specific data in real-world populations more easily and affordably.

The companies say their combined expertise results in an opportunity for brands aiming to validate finished formulations and speed market readiness while developing differentiated claims.

“Many brands today are rightly focused on building formulations around strong ingredients that provide clinical substantiation of health benefits. But they are also looking for new ways to strengthen their competitive position,” says Devin Stagg, president of PLT Health Solutions.

“This partnership gives our customers access to a smarter, faster way to build evidence around finished formulations while leveraging the scientific standards and commercialization experience PLT is known for.”

New platform for clinical substantiation

PLT has invested in clinical substantiation for over 35 ingredients in its portfolio, working with customers to launch products with stronger scientific backing. Through the partnership, the company believes it can do the same for finished formulations.

Under the new platform, PLT will support brands’ trial development and conduct clinical human health research. Meanwhile, Alethios will share studies with real-world relevance for clinical research support.

The platform can be used for digital study planning, Institutional Review Board approval, participant recruitment, compliance monitoring, and data reporting.

Personalized study designs

The partnership will support various types of research based on customer goals, budget, and stages of commercialization.

PLT suggests that this could entail rapid-turn consumer perception research focused on satisfaction, usage experience, or preference insights. It could also be that brands want more rigorous clinical designs using validated questionnaires, biomarker measurements, and a range of other outcomes in randomized, controlled trials.

Since studies can be personalized with specific product and business goals, the designs can be tailored to align with the consumer, claims strategy, and commercial opportunity, adds PLT.

“Consumer health brands assume that clinical research has to be slow, expensive, and operationally cumbersome,” comments Zeenia Framroze, CEO and founder of Alethios.

“Our platform exists to lower the barriers to fast, rigorous, and high-quality research for all. Partnering with PLT lets us pair that infrastructure with best-in-class ingredient science and commercialization expertise.”

Faster data for NPD cycles

PLT highlights that the Alethios platform is a decentralized model that may help reduce several traditional bottlenecks associated with clinical studies.

The platform can manage a large, engaged participant community while using digital workflows designed to accelerate recruitment, simplify participation, and improve study execution. For brands, this means generating data at the pace of modern product development cycles.

“As the industry evolves, many consumers are becoming savvier and seeking products with clinical validation. Consequently, brands are seeking ways to highlight the strength and efficacy of their formulations relative to the competition,” explains Jennifer Murphy, head of Innovation and Clinical Science at PLT Health Solutions.

“At PLT, we are proud of the demonstrated benefits of our ingredients and enthusiastic about the opportunity to support our most innovative customer partners with unique research to support their finished formulations.”

Stagg comments: “This collaboration is designed to create more value for the brands we serve. We can help science-driven brands further differentiate their offerings and create new messaging opportunities specific to their target consumer. We are excited about the potential for this alliance in the marketplace.”
