Optimizing mitochondrial function: MitoCarn launches four targeted L-Carnitine solutions
07 Oct 2019 --- In a bid to address the rising consumer demand for functional dietary and health supplements, MitoCarn has launched a series of four targeted L-Carnitine ingredients to maintain mitochondrial health. To optimize cellular function, the supplement line is touted as boosting brain and heart health, as well as healthy aging and weight management.
“Mitochondrial function has taken on greater importance because of its relevance to overall health along with growing consumer interest in healthy aging. There have been significant advancements in research around the loss of physiological integrity in relation to human pathology. What’s clear is that there are cellular and molecular contributors to the overall aging process,” Vaughn DuBow, Brand Manager for MitoCarn tells NutritionInsight.
DuBow explains that Mitocarn is unique because it offers the highest level of scientific support regarding its claims related to core cellular functions. In addition, the company aimed to move beyond the claims made from simple in vitro or animal model testing of raw materials to actual and relevant clinical data from human studies.
The supplement line comes in four targeted L-Carnitine solutions:
- MitoCarn Heart: Helps reduce oxidative stress through antioxidant activity to maintain mitochondrial health as well as ATP energy production and healthy blood flow to the heart.
- MitoCarn Brain:Helps mitigate subsequent cell death and improve energy status in the brain.
- MitoCarn Sport: Increases performance, stamina and exercise tolerance.
- MitoCarn Weight: Optimizes health metabolic function and increases insulin sensitivity for easier weight management.
“The four targeted L-Carnitine ingredients focus on optimizing mitochondrial function by providing continuous energy to the body, antioxidant protection for cells, support for lean energy production while minimizing cellular waste during the ATP process, and helping to manage the body’s cellular aging process,” DuBow summarizes.
MitoCarn’s ingredients are produced at Biosint’s pharmaceutical facility in Semoneta, Italy, the first manufacturer of L-Carnitine to obtain US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval. The ingredients can be used in liquids, gelcaps, capsules and tablets.
Backed by 31 process patent and over 100 clinical studies for safety and function, the supplement line is both kosher and vegan, as well as free-from genetically modified organisms (GMOs), allergens and gluten. In every batch produced, a Certificate of Analysis confirms test methods and declarations showing the absence of toxins, pesticides, irradiation and nanomaterials, notes the company.
MitoCarn will be showcasing its new line of L-Carnitine solutions at SupplySide West in Las Vegas later this month. “Our expectations for SupplySide West are to raise awareness of MitoCarn and support our business partners with innovations in the finished goods category. We felt that if we participated in SupplySide West, our goal would be to provide the industry with an innovation that is uncompromised in terms of value and quality,” DuBow concludes.
Research has shown how L-Carnitine supplementation can particularly enhance post-exercise recovery in aging populations at risk from skeletal decline. There is extensive evidence on L-Carnitine as a sports nutrition ingredient for enhanced exercise capacity in young athletes and how the ingredient can highly benefit other demographics, such as the elderly.
Consequently, innovation in this space has been ubiquitous over the past year, with huge potential for market growth. French producer of natural ingredients Fytexia has previously highlighted the potential for weight management ingredients as part of an active lifestyle, including not only L-carnitine but also citrus polyphenols and guarana and to support weight loss and a healthier body composition, citrus polyphenols, guarana and L-carnitine to support weight loss and healthier body composition.
