Nestlé Health Science eyes Brazil expansion with Puravida acquisition
24 May 2022 --- Nestlé Health Science is set to acquire Brazil-based Puravida, expanding its presence across the vitamins, minerals, herbals and supplements segment.
“This is an opportunity to combine our two companies’ expertise in many areas, including R&D in the field of nutrition, to bring Puravida to more people,” Jacquelyn Campo, senior director, corporate communications, tells NutritionInsight.
The acquisition is set to enable Nestlé Health Science to expand its consumer health portfolio in Brazil. Financial details of the transaction are not being disclosed. The transaction will be submitted to the Administrative Council for Economic Defense and is expected to be effective in the second quarter of 2022.
“Our retail capabilities will open up new opportunities for Puravida to further growth, and our strong network with healthcare professionals will expand the presence of the brand,” says Monica Meale, head of Nestlé Health Science, Latin America.
Puravida is described as a premium, fast-growing Brazilian nutrition and health lifestyle brand.
“With its organic, natural and plant-based foods, as well as clean-label and concentrated supplements, it is designed for consumers who take an active role in their wellbeing,” Nestlé Health Science says.
In February, the company announced it was slated to acquire a majority stake in plant-based nutrition company Orgain, tapping into protein nutritional supplements. https://www.nutritioninsight.com/news/nestle-health-science-to-expand-plant-based-protein-portfolio-with-orgain-acquisition.html
“Puravida is a strong, trusted brand, and with Nestlé Health Science’s capabilities and resources behind them, we will be able to help Puravida accelerate its growth. Its product and channel mix is complementary to our existing portfolio in Brazil,” Campo underscores.
“We will be able to discuss more about strategy in the coming months.”
Highlighting opportunities
According to Nestlé Health Science, the acquisition will bring together both companies’ R&D experience in nutrition, furthering innovation.
“Puravida’s mix of products complements Nestlé Health Science’s portfolio, which already has an offering in oral nutritional supplements, protein powders and ready-to-drink nutritional beverages in Brazil,” the company notes.
“Vitamins, minerals and supplements are part of a growing segment and, with Puravida’s acquisition, Nestlé Health Science will expand its range of brands in different categories and be able to reach consumers and patients with increased reliability, nutritious and high-quality products.”
With a focus on R&D, Nestlé Health Science in February completed its acquisition of Vital Proteins, a US collagen producer and provider of supplements, food products and beverages.
The company had also announced double-digit growth this year, reflecting a strong demand for vitamins, minerals and supplements.
