Lubrizol targets “prejuvenation” trend with Curcushine’s latest clinical results
Lubrizol’s Nutraceuticals Business unveils clinical results for Curcushine microcapsules, its patented, water-dispersible curcumin extract designed to boost skin radiance and reduce signs of aging from within. According to the recent study, Curcushine reduced crow’s feet wrinkles by 10.3%, forehead lines by 5.1%, and brown spot coverage by up to 8%. Overall skin luminosity increased by 19% and homogeneity improved by 69%.
To highlight Curcushine’s beauty-from-within advances, Lubrizol will feature the ingredient at Vitafoods Europe 2025 in Barcelona, Spain (May 20–22) at booth #4F10. The company says it will focus on how microencapsulation technologies can unlock curcumin’s full potential, meeting growing consumer demand for scientifically validated, ingestible beauty solutions.
“It’s clear that consumers are increasingly interested in supplements that support a radiant complexion, hair growth, and overall beauty, with a major emphasis on preventive measures for aging,” reveals Isabel Gómez, the global marketing manager for Lubrizol Nutraceuticals. “Notably, taking a proactive approach to aging gracefully is in vogue among younger adults, including Gen Z and Millennials.”
“The rising trend of ‘prejuvenation’ reflects this shift, focusing on nutricosmetic products that help maintain a youthful appearance and prevent signs of aging before they occur.”

Study findings
The 42 day long trial included 63 healthy women aged 21–50. Participants consumed either a daily 2 g dose of Curcushine (0.5 g of curcumin) or a matching placebo in powder form. Assessments of facial images and instrumental measurements revealed that the microencapsulated curcuminoids significantly boosted skin brightness and reduced wrinkle volume. The results show that Curcushine reduces wrinkles while increasing skin radiance.
The findings, published in Agro FOOD Industry Hi-Tech, were part of a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving healthy women with visible facial imperfections or fine lines around the eyes.
The trial’s in vivo results build on earlier in vitro work demonstrating Curcushine’s antioxidant protection of dermal cells, which preserves collagen and elastin integrity. Through the company’s microencapsulation process, Lubrizol says it overcomes the challenges of curcumin’s poor solubility and bioavailability.
This enables its dispersal in water and facilitates incorporation into tablets, capsules, gummies, powder sachets, and functional beverages. Lubrizol highlights that Curcushine is GMO-free and positioned for use in nutraceutical and nutricosmetic applications.
“The results of this clinical study, along with the previous lab study underscore Curcushine’s potential in supporting skin rejuvenation and overall beauty enhancement,” concludes Teresa Negra, Lubrizol’s nutraceuticals new business development manager.
“This is attributed to the microencapsulation technology used, which enables curcumin to be easily absorbed within the body, radiating its positive benefits on the epidermal layers of skin, rendering it a powerful natural beauty-from-within agent.”
