Better than capsules? EO3 omega 3 smoothie offers consistent dosing without fishiness
23 Mar 2022 --- Feliscity Nutrition is positioning its new protein smoothie as a more desirable source of omega 3 than traditional supplements. The company notes that EO3 (Enhanced Omega 3) offers stable omega 3 without side effects like gas or reflux in a tasty, berry-flavored nutritionally-consistent and ready-to-drink format.
Janne Sande Mathisen, inventor of the EO3 formulation, tells NutritionInsight the drink offers a consistent dose of Norwegian cod liver oil, which is not often the case for omega 3 delivery formats. “These levels are not consistent when eating fish or supplementing with gel caps.”
Mathisen highlights: “The oxidation level of fish oils impacts the production of reflux, gas and dilution. If the oil has been exposed to air – such as opening the cap on a bottle of gel caps over time – the higher the oxidation levels can be.”
Avoiding rancidity
The more rancid the fish oil is, the higher nasty side effects can be, Mathisen continues. “Also, when fish oil reaches and mixes with the acid in the stomach, a reflux reaction can also occur.”
She adds: “EO3 is aseptically packaged to assure absolute omega 3 freshness at the point of consumption, whereas a bottle of soft gel caps that is opened and exposed to air will turn rancid and can oxidize and and lose its potency.”
Dr. Stuart Philips, professor at McMaster University, explains what sets the drink apart is that the omega 3 lipids in EO3 are not oxidized and are highly bioavailable. This means consumers will benefit from a more rapid and complete absorption of the desired nutrients.
Since humans cannot produce omega 3, it is necessary to get fatty acids from the diet. However, the Center for Disease Control says 98% of US consumers are omega 3 deficient.
No added sugar or preservatives
Mathisen’s formula manages to emulsify and stabilize a mix of omega 3-rich Norwegian cod liver oil together with nutrients that are free of gluten, nuts and soy.
“EO3 is bioavailable, and the fish oil is protected and integrated within the nano bond of protein. The stomach recognizes it as a food and absorbs it as such, eliminating any reaction or reflux,” says Mathisen.
The drink contains 20 g of whey and collagen protein; vitamins D and E; thymoquinone from black cumin oil; antioxidants and 1600 mg of Norwegian cod liver oil. EO3 also has no added sugar or preservatives.
“The drink has a high source of polyphenols from black currant, apple and pear juice. Furthermore, there is a good content of mixed tocopherols. The potent immune-boosting antioxidant – a phytochemical – is also in our EO3 drink, as is thymoquinone from black cumin oil,” says Mathisen.
She notes that thymoquinone has been studied and is associated with many health properties, including immunity effects.
Boosted by nano-dispersion tech
The drink’s bioavailability is supported by nano-dispersion technology.
“EO3’s nano-dispersion technology breaks down the omega 3 oils into tiny nano-sized droplets that are encapsulated within protein bonds, making it easier for the body to recognize and absorb the complete package of nutrients,” details Mathisen.
“This process ensures the delivery of the freshest and pure omega 3, maximizes absorption and prevents fish burps and gas that are common with soft gel caps.”
Drinking an 8.4 fl oz serving of EO3 is said to provide anti-inflammatory support, cardiovascular health and muscle and cognitive function.
Tested by athletes and elite military groups
According to Mathisen, after the product first launched, it was tested by an array of elite groups.
“The product was launched and tested by professional sports teams and then introduced to college sports teams as a better way for their elite athletes to get the necessary omega 3 levels.”
She continues that the company is not allowed to disclose the names of the groups: “We do not ‘sponsor’ these teams, and so we are not allowed to advertise them or use their name for publicity – the same goes for the hospitals and US and UK military groups.”
“Currently, we have over 12 EPL and Champions League football teams using EO3, 10 NFL teams, six NBA teams and over 50 US colleges using it. We also have many Olympic athletes – from track and field to swimming – using EO3.”
The drink has a berry flavor without any fishy aftertaste.
“There is only one flavor SKU at this point. Down the road, there may be other flavors.”
Recently, omega 3’s effects on immunity and cell membrane integrity were explored in a series of studies, which discovered that the fatty acid has positive effects on users’ health and wellness.
