AstaReal AB launches vegan vitamin D3+K2 for bone, muscle & immune health
Key takeaways
- AstaReal AB launches vegan vitamin D3+K2 from lichen, using clinically backed MenaQ7 K2 as a sustainable, animal-free alternative to lanolin.
- The supplement targets winter vitamin D deficiency and restrictive diets, as D3 boosts calcium absorption while K2 directs it to bones.
- The launch is part of expanding the “by Astaxin” supplement line, now in pharmacies and health stores.

AstaReal AB has introduced a vegan vitamin D3+K2 supplement made from lichen, a natural and sustainable alternative to the animal-derived lanolin.
Annelie Gunnarsson, brand manager at AstaReal AB, comments: “Vitamin D3+K2 by Astaxin is developed to help maintain strong bones, normal muscle function, and a well-functioning immune system.”
“We will soon launch additional dietary supplements under the name ‘by Astaxin.’ They are complementary to our Astaxin products, which contain astaxanthin, and are carefully designed to support health and well-being.”
Vitamin K2 is in the form of menaquinone-7 (MenaQ7), which the company claims is the most clinically documented and stable form of K2. It is backed by over 20 clinical studies.

Vitamin D deficiency
AstaReal AB underlines that vitamin D deficiency is more common in the winter months because sunlight is limited. This issue especially affects people with darker skin tones if they spend less time outdoors or wear clothing that covers the body all year.
“Vitamin D helps increase the absorption of calcium from the intestine and supports its incorporation into bones and teeth, while vitamin K2 facilitates the transport of calcium from the blood to the skeleton,” says Gunnarsson.
“Together, they support the body’s calcium balance and bone density. Vitamin D also contributes to a normal immune system and to maintaining normal muscle function.”
Ethical vitamin K
The gut microbiota produces vitamin K. However, it is not sufficient to meet daily requirements, AstaReal AB points out. It is found in meat, egg yolk, cabbage, green leafy vegetables, and fermented foods that are rich in vitamin K.
Additionally, people following a restrictive diet may need more vitamin K.
“An increasing number of consumers are demanding plant-based products, both for ethical reasons and because they are perceived as a more sustainable choice. Therefore, we have developed a supplement that is 100% vegan,” says Gunnarsson.
“This launch is part of our long-term commitment to offering high-quality, research-based dietary supplements. Additional exciting launches are coming up shortly.”
AstaReal AB’s Vitamin D3+K2 by Astaxin can be found at pharmacies and health food stores since February this year.
Previously, AstaReal AB introduced Membralife, a series of sea buckthorn products developed to treat and prevent dry skin and mucous membranes.
