Givaudan’s patented turmeric extract boosts sports recovery 72 hours after exercise, study finds
Key takeaways
- A low daily dose of 300 mg significantly reduced muscle soreness 72 hours after high-intensity exercise in healthy adults.
- The proprietary extract improved muscle function and helped maintain athletic performance within the first 24 hours of recovery.
- The formulation’s high solubility allows for versatile uses in functional formats like gummies, shots, and sachets beyond traditional capsules.

New clinical evidence backs Givaudan’s proprietary turmeric formulation, TurmiPure Gold, in supporting sports recovery after exercise. The patented ingredient is a natural turmeric formulation that addresses common challenges in turmeric applications in the dietary supplement market, such as high dosage requirements and poor solubility.
The study examined short-term supplementation and involved 45 healthy participants. It found that the ingredient significantly reduced muscle soreness 72 hours post-exercise, while improving their muscle function and maintaining athletic performance 24 hours after exercise.
“We are thrilled that this recent clinical study demonstrates that TurmiPure Gold supports faster muscle recovery and sustained performance,” says Stephanie Calafat, global product manager, Physical Health at Givaudan Taste & Wellbeing.

“It complements our earlier consumer perception study in active individuals and reinforces our commitment to natural, science-backed solutions that help people stay active and perform.”
With a low daily dosage of only 300 mg, TurmiPure Gold is versatile in various applications, including shots, gummies, and sachets, as well as more conventional dietary supplement applications such as capsules and tablets.
Male adults exhibited better recovery
Givaudan stresses that high-intensity exercise, including resistance training, can induce pain or discomfort caused by muscle damage.
Delayed muscle soreness may occur within the first 24 hours of exercise — as long as five to seven days after the exercise — affecting muscle function and strength and impacting training programs.
In the randomized study, researchers analyzed the effects of five-day supplementation with TurmiPure Gold (300 mg daily) on muscle pain and function recovery in moderately active adults. The participants included 35 men and 10 women aged 25 to 45.
While the primary trial population consisted of the male participants, outcomes in females were considered exploratory.
In healthy male participants, five-day supplementation with 300 mg of TurmiPure Gold improved muscle functions with significant differences at 24 hours. Results show they maintained athletic performance and had less exercise-induced muscle soreness.
This participant group also exhibited significantly increased muscle soreness recovery at 72 hours.
The study is published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition.
Previous research published earlier this year found that TurmiPure Gold achieves similar or improved absorption of curcuminoids across a variety of dietary supplement applications compared to traditional capsules. This included six different formats — capsules, ready-to-drink fruit nectars, sports nutrition bars, pectin gummies, probiotic drinks, and oat milk.
