Vitafoods Europe 2024: Symrise merges natural solutions with science for the gut and healthy aging

Nathalie Richer, human health business leader of Taste, Nutrition and Health at Symrise, told us at this year’s trade show that the company focused on three pillars: gut health and immunity, metabolic health and healthy aging. The company developed a natural sports drink alternative, HydraBoost, a coconut water powder base containing electrolytes to support hydration and muscle function. Richer introduced Symrise’s HappyBelly Shot — a prune juice concentrate — that, based on a clinical trial, supports normal bowel function at a low dosage.

We're excited to talk to you today.
Can you tell us about some of what your main focus is for the trade show this year?
This year at Vital Food we are still focusing on three key pillars that are gut health and immunity, showcasing innovation for digestive health, showcasing a new format for our key branded ingredients such as tree biochrome, showcasing new formats such as gummies, focusing on immune solutions naturally formulated.
Key ingredient but also showcasing our flavor and masking capabilities.
Our second key health pillar is around metabolic health, where we are focusing on solutions for glucose with our apple extract and our apple cider vinegar coming in a powder stick, instant beverage, and the last pillar is about health.
With a key focus around mobility, active lifestyle, with a concept like a bar showcasing our collagen solution as as, and finally still for healthy aging, we are also introducing new solutions for a natural source of potassiums and supporting hydration.
Amazing, and you have some innovative concepts in your hand.
Can you tell us a little about?
So specifically, we have two new products.
The first one is a new solution, natural solution for digestive health.
It's based on prune solutions.
So why prune solution for digestive health?
We know there is a health concerns that is functional constipation.
Impacting I would say more than 11% of the population, but when it comes to women, it's even more than 15%.
So there is a real need for natural solutions to help with constipation.
So we have developed this prune juice concentrate that we make and produce in our Chilean factory where it's the leading country already for the prune production.
This juice is.
Isosorbitol, that is known for its water affinity that can help with constipation, and to demonstrate the efficacy of this product, we conducted a clinical study in China at the Guangdong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
So there they have been able to demonstrate on 38 volunteers that consuming 15 mL of this prune juice over 2 weeks helps to reduce the.
Severity by 68% improves the quality of life because constipation also leads to anxiety, stress, and psychosocial discomfort by 80%.
And we also use another criteria that is the Bristol stool chart that help evaluate the severity of the constipation that also significantly improved with this solutions.
And can you also tell us Hydro Boost innovation.
Yes, absolutely.
So this is our 2nd new product we are launching at this Vita Food Edition.
So it's a new coconut water powder base.
This ingredients contains naturally potassium but also other electrolytes, so it will naturally help support rehydration.
So here we can target sportive populations, supporting active lifestyle.
So if you To just improve your hydration or have need specific hydration after exercise, for instance, or before exercise, we developed this concept in a powder.
It's a stick instant powder you can rehydrate into a beverage, a healthy beverage.
It's naturally flavored with yuzu and strawberry, so it's very enjoying, hydrating.

Can you tell me what sort of demographics and market trends products like these would speak to?
So this is a solution we are presenting under our healthy aging pillar, not meaning we are addressing elderlies, but I would say active population that just need to have active lifestyles.
And its support to keep hydrated because we know we don't drink enough and this concerns almost everyone, all adults, so this is a solution that could address anyone looking for alternative solutions to help drink more water.

Can you also tell us, maybe give us a little hint into what we can expect from samurai in the future?
Absolutely.
So we will continue definitively to reinforce our three pillars gut health immunity, metabolic health, and healthy aging by developing more solutions.
But what is very important for us is to have.
