Vitafoods Europe 2024: SuanNutra CEO on importance of science-backed nutraceutical ingredients

SuanNutra’s CEO Anthony Weston detailed that Vitafoods 2024 was the first time the company and its subsidiaries Monteloeder and Gonmisol presented under one umbrella. Weston highlighted that the company will focus more on science-backed ingredients and claims in the future, with additional R&D investments to advance SuanNutra’s existing offer and develop new products in women’s health and cognition. The company presented its latest formulations for sleep quality (RelaxPLX) and beauty-from-within (Zeropollution) at the show.

I'm here at Vita Foods Europe with the CEO of Swan Nutra, Anthony Weston.

What can you tell us about what you're featuring at Vita Foods this year?
I think the first thing to talk about is that we are presenting as Swan Nutra, which is the first time at Vita Foods.
Swan Nutra is a collection, a hub of individual brands, and it's something that we will develop in the future.
In the past we've only exhibited as individual companies.
Now we're together under one umbrella of Swan Nutra.
As for products, we have a very good new product which is the Relax PLX product which is to improve your sleep.
I can tell you that from personal experience, it's an excellent product, it's certainly working very for me.
We also have another product called Zero Pollution, which is in for one of the awards, and this reflects our focus on the beauty from within sector, not only on the skin with our previous products like Neutroxan and Eternal Young, but also with hair health and scalp health, and this is what zero pollution is all about.

And looking to the future, what do you think the company's focus will be for the next few years?
I think we will pivot towards a much more fundamental science-backed ingredients base, as a manufacturer, first and foremost, and that will lead to changes in the business, but very positive changes for the business.
A considerable investment in R&D and innovation.
To take forward our existing product range of branded from the Montelo brand and also to develop new products in terms of women's health and cognitive ability, we have an excellent product in weight management called Metabolaid which we want to develop even further and invest heavily in the clinical studies for all of the products, the existing ones and the new products.

And if you look at the industry itself, where do you see that heading and what kind?
Trends do you expect will increase?
I think the focus on science-backed ingredients, being able to support your claims with very, very good clinical studies.
At the moment our policy is to do two gold standard clinical studies per product at least, and that's what we're working on, and that's a considerable investment for the future.
And I also think on the sustainability front as we move to becoming a manufacturing dominated company, then our efforts on sustainability and environmental aspects need to be enhanced and improved over the next few years.
OK, and can you add a little bit on how Swan Nutra anticipates and responses to those kinds of trends and demands from consumers also, I think the first thing is to invest in the people that are in the company.
To give them the space to develop the policies, the procedures, the principles that we want to implement within Spanytra in that area and also to build the team and to grow the team, transform the business into the business that we aspire to be.

And what can you tell us about the part because you've mentioned this already, scientific research and how you're focusing on that.
Can you give some concrete examples of the role that scientific research plays at the company?
So we have a strong team in our Monteloeda brand in Alicante in Spain.
John, Nuria, Andrea and Pau, who work in the research department full time, they are tasked with bringing up new ideas, new concepts, new products, and then taking them forward into clinical, into first stage trials and then clinical studies in order that we can present very strong scientific claims to the market and to the customers.
