The launch of a fermented foods nutritional

29 May 2019 | Naturex

At Vitafoods Europe 2019, NutritionInsight spoke with Leslie Lannebere, Global Category Manager Nutrition at Naturex, about the company's wholefood fermented mineral solution.

These are our warriors at the Vita Foods in Geneva, and I'm here with Leslie Lona Bear from Naturx, and Naturx are highlighting Utama here at the show, which is a new solution that's based on whole food and fermented minerals.

Leslie, what, what, what is this product and how does it meet today's trends?

Basically, Robin Utiman is, as you mentioned, a whole food fermented mineral solution that is based on the Kogi fermentation.

Koji fermentation relies on a microorganism, a microfunguss, which is aspergillushourrizae, which has a great affinity for minerals.

During a 72 hours fermentation, this, microorganism is going to take the minerals within itself, doing like a protection of the minerals, like, an encapulation of the minerals.

It's very interesting regarding the trends, the actual trends on the market about fermentation, whole food nutrition, and we believe that there is a strong opportunity with this ingredient on this market.

What type of health platforms does it function on?

Basically any health platform because we are delivering alternative sources of minerals in Europe.

You can make thousands of claims based on minerals.

If you deliver 15% of your area, your source of minerals, and then you can achieve claims for sports nutrition, for fertility, for immunity, for cognition, whatever.

Today our main product is the ultimate iron, standardized to 8 to 10% iron.

Meaning that you need a dose of 175 mg of lumine iron to deliver 100% of the recommended daily intakes of iron a day.

OK, so what else are you working on from this respect?

Which type of applications is this product suitable for?

Since we get the green light from the novel food authorities back in January, this ingredient is perfectly suitable for both food supplements and food and beverage application in Europe.

So we strongly believe in the potential in the food supplement area, but also in food and beverage.

Because of this kind of encapsulation that we deliver on the market, it's going to help to lower.

The metallic off knots of the iron, so it can be suitable in gummies, in yogurts, in nutritional drinks.

OK, is there opportunities to expand this line a little bit going beyond iron?

Robin, today we are showcasing for the very first time a vital 2 solution, the standalone iron, 8 to 10% iron, and the multi 7, and we aim to introduce into the line a new standalone minerals.

Like zinc, for example.

Very interesting.

OK, and your other launch here at the show relates to sports nutrition.

Can you very briefly speak a little bit about that?

Yes, absolutely.

We believe that the sports nutrition is a very interesting opportunity at the moment on the market with a double digit growth.

So we've been gathering our, our main strengths, which is the botanical extract to address the needs of sports nutrition that are mainly split between the workout support and the energy and endurance.

So what is the ingredient that you're launching on that platform?

So we are launching a different kind of anti-mine obviously for recovery with minerals and athletic for the muscle performance.

OK, something to look out for.

Thank you so much, Lindsey.

You're welcome.
