At Vitafoods Asia 2018, George Paraskevakos of the International Probiotics Association (IPA) notes a lot of support for probiotics within the scientific space. “I wouldn’t say that there are shortcomings to probiotic benefits and some of the substantiation when it comes to clinical trials. There is definitely a lot of research data out there about the benefits tied into probiotics. IPA funded a study into clinical trials conducted into probiotics from Clinicaltrials.gov and the WHO, where we found 1,200 studies on probiotics and different types of endpoints. I think our stakeholders and the probiotic industry is, for the most part, the poster child of what the ingredients industry should follow. We are all about transparency and properly substantiating products and streams and being open about it.”
