Ribose as part of an anti-aging solution

10 Jan 2019 | BLS

Bioenergy Ribose is a unique 5 carbon carbohydrate that can be used as a standalone product or added to a variety of functional foods, beverages, and nutraceuticals. Ribose is naturally present in every living cell in the body and essential to the production of cellular energy, which is why the nutriitonal holds potential in the anti-aging space. Marianne McDonagh of BLS discusses the role for ribose as part of an anti-aging solution.

This is Robs at the HAE in Frankfurt.

I'm here with Marion McDonagh from BLS.

Marianne, you've done have a strong tradition in the ribo space, but now you're kind of expanding the portfolio somewhat with the launch of a new solution which is really positioned on an anti-aging platform.

What is it that you're offering and how does it meet today's trends?

Our newest product is Ryaev.

Ryoje is a combination of bioenergy ribose and vitamin B3, and it's been shown to increase our NED levels.

So it's healthy aging is aging from the inside.

OK.

What, what do you mean by NED?

What, what, what does that mean?

NED is a coenzyme.

In all of our bodies and it kind of controls the aging process.

So as we age or if we suffer from illness or fatigue or disease, or NAD levels drastically decrease, with decreased NAD levels, you're going to age much faster.

OK, so it's it's got strong efficacy from that regard.

What type of applications is it suitable for?

It's going to be common in a lot of dietary supplement, cosmetic, and cosmaceutical-based applications.

OK, and you launched it in the US already.

Now you're looking through it.

We launched it in the US actually at Spiceite West in November earlier this year.

And now we're expanding into Europe.

OK.

Where, where do you see the biggest opportunities?

A lot of dietary supplements, cosmetic, I think, a healthy aging based, I think that's the newest emerging market.

So we're going to focus there.

And you might look to maybe combine with other health with other health ingredients that, it could work.

It could work with other, you know, beauty type ingredients, collagen, hyaluronic acid.

OK, this, this is really something that's, that's kind of on the move.

This, this market is still really kind of.

Emerging.

It's definitely emerging.

OK, OK, very good, very good.

And how about the regulatory approval situation?

Is it usable in Europe?

Rivals obviously just received a novel food approval, so Rivals is safe for use in Europe, and vitamin B3 is already safe.

So there really is no regulatory approval process needed.

And I guess that that opening on the novel foods front is.

Creating new opportunities for you as a company as.

Maybe is there a reason that you're here.

It is, yes, we've worked very hard on the novel food process and we're very happy with the success of it.

OK, so despite your strong tradition in the US now, you know, you see a lot of European opportunities, I think so.

I think we can definitely expand our brand and our products in Europe.

OK, something to look out for.

Thank you very much, Marianne.

Thank you.

Appreciate it.
