New Platforms in Probiotics

14 May 2014 | Lallemand Health Solutions

Lallemand Health Solutions has introduced the latest addition to its portfolio of probiotic offers with the launch of ORAL HEALTH solutions. This new offer combines proprietary documented probiotic strains and adapted dosage forms and formulation capabilities to design custom oral health solutions to maintain the oral microflora balance and support oral health.

This is Robertwires at the Vita Foods in Geneva and I'm here with Isabelle Champy from Lalamont and Lalamont are marking 80 years in probiotics here at the show.

And Isabel, can you tell me about some of the breakthroughs that we've seen recently in probiotics and what type of new platforms you're going to be looking at?

Yeah, sure, thank you.

Probiotics were dedicated mainly to the gastrointestinal health in the past years or in the past in the past.

Then we went through immunity products for kids or for adults, and more recently we've seen the emergence of new areas of probiotics such as the stress, for instance.

We've been one of A leader to launch products in the industry against stress.

What about development into the area of depression?

Yes, Together with studying the anxiety, we've been showing that we can also decrease light depression.

I wouldn't say very strong depression, but there are some potential for probiotics to be.

Found out in this area more recently also we've been trying to work, we've been working in oral care with some screening of all our strains in different areas and we've been able to identify several strains that can be really successful to treat some oral care disease or distress such as tooth decays or.

Eivitis, osis, etc.

And in the future we are pretty sure that we will find out a very interesting science in the area of obesity, cholesterol, metabolism, all these kinds of areas that are a very big challenge for the current world.

But how far are you from in terms of health claims into these type of areas?

Health claims for Europe.

We are running several clinical trials right now that we hope will be acceptable for the EFSA, so we cannot say that we are close to that today, but we have great hope for the future, especially now that EFSA is more opening dialogues with association and with the industry.

Isabel, thank you very much.
