CPHI 2025: Ingredia’s dairy-derived innovations for mobility, sleep, and holistic wellness

04 Nov 2025 | Ingredia

At CPHI 2025 in Frankfurt, Germany, Joanna Moro, clinical trial specialist at Ingredia, highlighted the company’s latest dairy-based innovations. She presented scientific support for the company’s latest bioactive ingredient for joint comfort, Xelflex, in seniors and athletes. This milk protein hydrolysate can decrease markers of inflammation and edema. She also detailed how Lactium helps manage stress and improve sleep quality. Moreover, Moro explained how Ingredia’s solutions can be synergistically combined to target stress, metabolism, immunity, and mobility.

This is Yolanda van Hael from Nutrition Insights.

I'm here at CPHI 2025 with Joanna Moveaux, who is a clinical trial specialist at Ingrea.

Thank you for joining us today.

And I know that you've recently launched launched Cell Flex for joint comfort and recovery.

I'm curious how this milk protein hydrolysate contributes to active lifestyles.

So osteoarthritis can affect seniors, athletes, and active people.

So osteoarthritis can lead to chronic pain, loss of joint function, and loss of mobility.

So it is very important to take care.

Of your joints to to continue to move during your entire life.

And so that's why we developed an ingredientelflex, that is a milk protein hydrolyzide, so a mix of different peptides with anti-inflammatory properties.

Interesting.

What kind of research has been done on the health benefits of this offering?

What were the findings?

So for our different ingredients, we have different scientific proof of efficacy.

So for these ingredients, we have an in vitro study demonstrated that we have an anti-inflammatory effect.

So in some Immune cells we have demonstrated that Xelflex can decrease immune markers and inflammation markers.

After this proof of efficacy, we developed an in vivo study with arthritic mice.

So this mice has Knee edema and with Zelenflex we have shown that we decrease the size of this edema and so we increase the reception of this edema and after this proof of efficacy so we decrease anti-inflammatory markers we decrease.

We recently launched a consumer study to evaluate the passiveness of consumers.

So we performed this study with 65 athletes and 65 seniors to evaluate the effects on these two.

Target of population and we observed that for seniors Zanaflex can decrease the chronic pain, can improve the mobility, and so improve the whole quality of life.

And for athletes, we observed that Zelflex can decrease the pain during exercise and can improve.

Recovery after exercise with a decrease in pain due to the anti-inflammatory effects and in the we have 8 in 10% that are satisfied with the effects of very impressive, interesting.

And I know that there is another solution that you're featuring at the show this year, lactium for sleep and relaxation support.

How are you leveraging that ingredient to help brands address this growing stress-sleep connection that we see now in consumers' daily wellness routines?

Yes, so we know that there is a strong link between stress and sleep.

Because acute and chronic stress can act as a trigger for sleep disturbances, and sleep deficits have a real impact on the quality of life.

It can decrease productivity, so it's very important to act on.

On stress to manage stress to have a better sleep quality and so with lactium we have different proof with clinical studies showing that we can decrease stress and we can improve sleep quality.

So our research has shown that with lactium we increase the quality of.

Sleep we increase the time of sleep and the efficiency of sleep by reducing the stress.

OK, interesting.

And just combining all these together, you have solutions in stress and sleep, metabolic balance and mobility.

So it spans multiple aspects of healthy aging with your portfolio this way.

I'm curious, how do you see these bioactives working synergistically?

So how can they work together to deliver a more holistic wellness approach?

We have different.

We target different health benefits because we know that consumers want to act on their global -being, but it's possible to use our ingredients just in a unique solution that you can combine.

For example, if I think We know that to regulate glucose, for example, stress can impact glu glucose secretion.

So you can combine lactam and pep to have better management of your glycemia.

Stress can also impact the immune system, and we produce lactoferrin as , so you can combine lactam and lactoferrin to produce by acting on stress and the immune system.

I think sport.

The athlete population, so we have our new solution, Zelflex for joints.

But we have also for bone health, so you can combine these two ingredients to act on joints and on bone on bone as.

You can also combine Zanaflex with lactam, for example, to act on the stress before competitive sports.

It's interesting to combine these ingredients and I also think it could be also interesting to combine.

Pep for the glucose management with lactoferrin because we know that lactoferrinn can reduce inflammation and we know that with metabolic syndrome you have an impact on your glucose management, but you have also A low grade systemic inflammation.

So by combining lactoferrrine and tudaa, you can have a complete product to act on.

OK, very interesting.

And I'm also curious if we can look a little bit into the future.

How will Engrea evolve its bioactive protein platform to meet consumers' future needs, and what do you think is the next frontier of dairy-derived innovation?

OK, so we know that for consumers there are 3 important characteristics.

Ingredients have to be from natural origin with an efficacy and scientifically proven, so we work on these 3 characteristics.

And so we worked with milk.

Day ingredients and we know that in milk there are a lot of peptides with different bioactivities and with different health benefits and we work with labs and universities to study marine milk and all its potentialities.

For example, in in intestinal health, in cognitive health, in different topics in different health benefits, so we are working on all these benefits to find the next one of our ingredients.

Thank you so much, Joanna.
