At this week’s CPHI trade show, Marie-Bénédicte Charpentier, marketing director of Health & Wellness at ADM, highlighted the company’s ES1 ingredient for digestive health available in pro- and postbiotic versions, which can be used in different popular food supplement delivery formats. Charpentier also detailed clinical research on ADM’s Fibersol prebiotic, supporting GLP-1 hormone parameters at 10 g daily. She added that combining these pre-, pro- and postbiotics could result in “optimal digestive health.”

I'm here at CPHI 2024 with Marie Benedict Charpentier, who is the marketing director of health and wellness at ADM.
Thank you for joining us today.
What can you tell us?
What are the primary innovations or trends that you see in the nutraceutical industry at the moment?
OK, thank you very much for this moment together with you.
We are at CPHI 24 to highlight our capabilities into pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals.
As you know, we have a range of products that are pharma grade, specialty oils, for example, useful for clinical nutrition, and we also have a full range of products that can apply for dietary supplements.
We are there to highlight our capabilities into specialty oils for parenteral nutrition and also prebiotic, probiotic, and postbiotic that can apply for food supplements in various areas as as functional botanicals, vitamin E, tocophils, everything from natural origin, vegetable origin, of course, except the strains that are from babies' origin.
And can you tell us about the innovations that ADM offers in trending health areas and what aspects they address?
OK, we are, stressing at the moment, a specific strain that is called ES1 that is targeting digestive health.
Why?
First of all, because we have that, in probiotic formula and postbiotic formula, which implies you have a lot of possibilities to use it in.
Traditional type of food supplements like capsules or powders, but you can also apply it in gummies or in shots because the probiotic version will be very stable and will help to offer in new galenic formats.
This one is of course supported with very solid scientific clinical trials.
Improving benefits in digestive health for IBSD patients with improving the severity of the of the disease and of course with improving the quality of life, even more the mood of those patients because they have much more comfort into their gut.
This is one of the really highlights we want to have.
And moreover, our capabilities to combine pre, pro and postbiotic because we also have new clinical trials with our Fibersil prebiotic brand.
Made of mice starch and 5bazol is able to support the GLP-1 hormone parameters.
That's a new trial with 10 g a day that we are very interested to combine this prebiotic, probiotic, and postbiotic for optimal digestive health.
Awesome.
And what drives innovation at ADM at the moment?
Consumers are always driving innovation.
OK.
We are deep into the consumer understanding and in terms of health benefit, because here we are more targeting the health benefit, I would say that we have two directions that are really important.
A third one I will touch to.
The first one would be women's health.
Women's health is really crucial.
It used to be somewhere taboo to speak about that, but now we have more and more companies that are asking for solutions, and we are researching there.
But when we say women's health, it's really all of the stages from the young generation with Vaginal concerns or menstruation pain to the mom having to take care of herself and the baby and also menopause period that can last for longer than we are exploring possibilities in all of the life stages of the women.
That's one direction.
A second direction is mood, sleep, stress.
The gut brain axis, I would say, which is really crucial because and we already have solutions with combining several probiotic strains and some botanicals.
But we also have some botanical extracts that can help.
This is the second direction and we have, we will propose more in the near future.
And, lastly I would say, active lifestyle is one of the directions too, and there we can target any generation, any type of people with, products that will help recover after sports or that will support your.
Energy when you make sports, those are, I would say the three directions.
OK.
And, within those new directions that you just mentioned, are there any new ingredients or technologies that you're excited about incorporating into future products?
Ah yes, sure.
Ah, into the women's health direction I would say we can combine our probiotic and our botanicals.
This is a challenge I would say because the stability of the probiotics within a mixed with botanicals can be a challenge, and we are working hard in terms of R&D development to really make sure that the combinations we do can.
Be relevant and can be stable in time.
That's one direction we have.
Second, we are preparing new ingredients in the microbiome field that will be in the gut brain axis very soon, but I, I will, I will keep some surprise.
And what else can you tell us about what we can expect from ADM in the future?
I would say you can expect to have, functionalities into your daily routine because, we really have ingredients that you can incorporate in your food, in your beverages.
That's the first thing.
We want to provide good health, good mood to everyone.
The dairy products with no compromise on the taste and therefore we have some very interesting information from the consumer point of view on how they associate colors, flavors, ingredients to some health benefits, and that is driving our innovation.
Second, we really want to help in a specific moment of your life.
That's why we extend our range of food supplements opportunities from childhood, very young babies until elderly, with a wide range of health benefits from immunity to digestive health to mood to stress to metabolic health, heart health, for example.
That's important to us, and we don't want to.
Forget the patients.
That's why we are really keen on having our specialty oils that can help in parenteral nutrition.
Then we can cover people in good health and the ones that have more difficulties in life.
