CPHI 2025: Corbion’s nutraceuticals and pharma solutions for preventive health

18 Nov 2025 | Corbion

Lucas Wiarda, strategic director of Marketing at Corbion, detailed how the company’s solutions, ranging from biomedical polymers for injectables and renal care to nutraceuticals like omega-3, respond to rising consumer demand for preventive health. Wiarda also emphasized Corbion’s commitment to sustainability, utilizing naturally derived ingredients through eco-friendly fermentation technologies. As the lines between nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals continue to blur, he highlighted how Corbion’s expertise in high-quality, pharma-grade materials helps shape the future of ingredient innovation.

This is Yolande von from Attrition Insights.

I'm here at CPI 2025 in Frankfurt, Germany with Lukas Riarda, who is the strategic director of marketing at Corbia.

Thank you for joining us today.

Nice meeting you.

I'm really curious, what is your focus at this year's CPI trade show at Corbi today, tomorrow, the day after, we first of all present ourselves as one Corbi.

Corbi is a company that offers a wide range of solutions for all types of needs, patients and health conscious consumers, and we offer both biomedical polymers, for instance, long acting injectables, active ingredients that end up in applications for.

Patients with renal care, dialysis, and we are offering nutraceuticals in the form of omega 3.

Awesome.

And where do you see the industry heading and what kind of trends do you see, for example, in the pharmaceutical space, in the health space, and how is Corbian responding to these evolving trends?

One of the interesting trends, Ilona, is that Consumers, especially consumers, become increasingly health conscious.

Preventing is better than curing, as we say in Dutch, for instance.

Therefore, we offer for a long time, many, many years, we offer active ingredients in the form of sodium lactate, and we have developed technologies to turn our lactic acids.

Compounds into biomedical polymers and more recently we developed a nutraceutical in the form of omega 3.

And I think this is symbolizing a little bit one of the trends that happens in health and nutrition that is basically that health conscious consumers increasingly start consuming nutraceuticals to stay healthy and to prevent that to prevent that they end up becoming a patient.

That is one of the things.

Of course there are many more trends that are lots of things happening in this space.

One thing that I also wanted to talk to you about was sustainability, which is one of the clear pillars for Corbia, and I'm curious how critical is sustainability when ingredient formulators or brand owners choose omega 3 or polymer ingredients?

Yeah, very good question.

I think sustainability is at the heart of what we do at Corbiion, but there are more, what we call brand promises why customers choose for Corbion.

Sustainability is one of them.

But quality, especially in pharma, also increasingly in nutraceuticals, quality is another very important element, like of course reliability.

With all the supply chain hiccups and challenges we have been facing over the past, Quality, reliability, and sustainability are all of great importance.

Sustainability is one of them.

So all our products are basically naturally derived, or most of our products from lactic acids or from algae, and we create those products via fermentation.

This is a very friendly, eco-friendly and sustainable technology, but it's only one element.

OK, and I'm curious, how can nutraceutical brands or supplement manufacturers borrow insights from your pharma grade materials that you work with Anna Carbion or expertise to elevate their delivery formats?

Yes, I think again here we arrive at the point of the quality element.

I think pharma is one of the most regulated and high quality industries that we have been establishing as a society over the past.

And with the expertise and knowledge and way of working, GMP and so forth, we apply in pharma, of course, this we can also apply in the nutraceutical business and therefore the quality elements.

I see as a big common denominator where our customers can can trust us for.

And the last question, as the boundaries between nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals are blurring, how do you at Corbian see your ingredient innovation bridging these two worlds in the next few years?

Like we said, we are moving already, not only offering pharmaceutical solutions, but also nutraceutical solutions.

What you see here at the CPSI also is that elements like microbiome health, and symbiotics, and so forth, prebiotics, not to forget, they become increasingly important and of course this is also something where.

Nutrition and pharma and corbi biomaterials will increasingly increasingly focus on to see how we can serve future needs because we have been pioneer in many of the products we are currently offering like the biomedical polymers were pioneering new modern surgery and currently new drug delivery formats.

The sodium lactate, we have been the pioneer for this type of, I think this type of treatments as , and omega 3, we will furthermore, of course, also develop to fulfill future needs.

Stay healthy, that's important.
