Biofach 2025: Beneo showcases organic nutrition innovations, highlighting health and sustainability trends
17 Feb 2025 | Beneo
Beneo presented its organic nutrition ingredients range at the recent Biofach trade show, highlighting the intersection of nutrition, health, and sustainability. Annelore de Boe, product manager of Functional Fibres, highlighted the company’s chicory root prebiotics benefits in gut health, immunity, weight management, and metabolic health. Benoit Tavernier, Beneo’s Specialty Rice Ingredients product manager, explained how the company’s rice ingredients and starches can improve food texture. The product managers also spotted a growing consumer interest in linking personal health with sustainability.
Nutrition insights reported from IFT 2025 in Chicago.
We're here at the Benny's stand with Kyle Krauss, who is regional product manager for functional carbohydrates and functional fibers.
Welcome to you.
So how is Benio addressing the unique nutritional needs of consumers using GLP-1 medications, particularly in terms of supporting muscle maintenance and digestive health during reduced food intake?
Right, right, so for muscle maintenance, protein obviously is very important, and at Beno we make fiber protein as as rice protein, plant-based proteins, and when used.
Together in formulations, they offer a complete amino acid profile.
So that really supports, muscle health, which is very important for consumers that are on GLP-1, because they're not eating a lot of food and they're not getting a lot of protein from their diet.
So really they're nutrient-dense foods are needed and our plant-based proteins really provide that to help support muscle maintenance.
And for blood.
Sugar Management.
We have palatinos, which is a low glycemic sugar, supports a slow release of glucose into the bloodstream.
So it's, it's a very healthy sugar that supports metabolic health.
OK, it's interesting.
So with this growing consumer interest in GLP1 naturally stimulating solutions like you mentioned, how does palatinose fit into product formulations?
For those managing weight without medication, right, so the most recent studies show that as low as 15 g per serving, palatinose helps the body to naturally excrete GLP-1 hormones.
So in this way, just by consuming planose at an appropriate dose, consumers are already getting GLP-1 in their bodies, which would help them.
Eat less foods, consume less less calories, and in that way it supports consumers naturally on their weight management journey.
Interesting.
And can you elaborate on Benlio's approach to long term weight management, maintenance and blood glucose management, especially in preventing post-diet weight gain through safety-focused ingredients, right?
So after GLP-1, yes, that weight coming back happens in many cases.
So our chicory root fiber, most recent studies show that as little as 10 g per day helps consumers control their own weight by the release of certain hormones, the gut brain access that tells your brain you're full, you shouldn't eat anymore.
So that's very recent news, 10 g per day.
And what's great is in the industry are chicory fibers used in a lot of food products from dairy and baked goods, so consumers are getting.
Already, so if they look for that on labels, also inulin as it's also known, they really can support their weight management long term in that regard.
Palatinos as , because of that GLP-1 release, it's also being a low glycemic carb, it's a healthier sugar, so it helps prevent that yo yo effect by consuming too many calories and just getting converted to fat in the body.
With this low glycemic nature, it's a much healthier sugar.
It also supports sustained energy by that slow release of glucose into the bloodstream, that low glycemic action, so that helps consumers to avoid that sugar spike and crash.
And when they get that crash, they want to keep snacking because they're hungry all over again.
So Palatinos helps prevent that by providing that slow release of glucose, that energy to the body.
You are interested.
And if we turn our attention to your performance drink which has been developed with Chalita and California Natural colors, what sets this milk-based formulation apart from traditional energy or protein drinks, right, right, so these are very natural ingredients, from Planos considered natural, the collagen, as as the color, from California natural colors.
So it's a unique, it's a milk-based beverage, and it.
Using these proven ingredients, or ingredients with proven science that support endurance.
So in this way, the industry can think about these in their current combo or in different com combos to create, unique sports beverages in a, in a natural way.
OK, brilliant.
And as a final question, how do Benio's functional ingredients like platanos that you mentioned and the prebiotic chicory root fibers?
Ireland's clean label demands will scientifically back performance in today's competitive health and wellness markets, right, right.
So there's a lot of claims out in the industry and really consumers should be, they shouldn't be misled and the product they choose on the market, it should deliver the benefits that are stated on PAC.
And so with Palanos, you have.
Numerous human clinical trials that support its effects not only on GLP-1, but also for sustained energy as as fat burning effect because there's less insulin release into the body, so there's a hormonal shift.
Your body actually starts to burn more fat again, supported by human clinical trials.
And then there's number 32 here is the number of studies based on using chicory root fiber that support weight management in humans.
So.
If consumers see these claims unpacked by these products that use palatinos or chicory root fiber, they'll at least be confident that the product is delivering what it's saying it's doing.
That's great, Carl.
Thanks for your time today.
Thank you.
