Protein bars and cookies were trending at Biofach this year. Iva Palma, CEO of Younique Foods and the Leya brand shares lifestyle insights with us behind the creation of their colorful chocolate covered protein cookies. The biscuits are positioned in the healthy snacking category and are all natural but deliver on flavor and appeal. She infused the vegan chocolates and fillings with ingredients such as turmeric for the canary yellow color, strawberry for pink, spirulina for purple and matcha for green, among others.
Hi, this is Inge de Jong here for Nutrition Insight.
I'm at BioFA 2024.
I'm here with Eva Palmer, CEO and founder of Unique Foods and the Layer brand.
Hi Eva.
Hi, nice to see you.
So what are you showcasing, this year at BioFar?
This year we have different varieties of products, all dedicated to the nutrition and plant-based ingredients.
We have several protein products.
Colorful cookies and chocolate covered products.
Also we have baked products, but I can go in details and show you more about that.
Here we have a protein bar which is claimed as high protein but contains only natural ingredients, several of them, which you can buy in the shops and cooked at home.
They are covered with, dark, vegan organic chocolate, which makes the feeling when you eat the protein bar really very, very good.
We also have different varieties of bars, and we are, we present the natural coconut bar, which is combined with just four ingredients and covered with natural chocolate.
On the other side, we are proud to pre to present our protein cookies, which has different recipes than the bars, but inside we put very nice creamy.
Texture as a filling, which gives more protein and also make the product even more delicious.
Furthermore, this year we decided to make the, the life colorful and develop products which has different chocolate colors and they're again natural with clean ingredients, organic certified and vegan.
We have, yellow chocolate with turmeric, pink chocolate with strawberry, purple one with spirulina, and also, green one with matcha.
They are very tasty, and I'm curious to, to share the products with you.
Interesting.
Tell me, why have you used different colored chocolates?
Because we wanted to.
To give more passion in the daily life when every day it is very difficult to find good products and when we want to make the life happier, we want to have colors, so we decided to color the nature of products and make them as happy.
So, how has consumer behavior driven your innovation?
Yeah, consumer behavior the last couple of months had changed and the people started to be more passionate about choosing good food.
The people started to look for more protein in the products.
But always looking for good balanced taste, so the customers are not more ready to pay for products which are healthy but not delicious.
That's why our focus is always on the trend to to give the good taste and natural ingredients.
Excellent.
So which geographies are you available in?
We sell a lot of products in Europe, mainly.
We sell in 20 countries in Germany, Austria, UK, Ireland, Sweden, Portuguese, Croatia, and other countries.
I see.
And tell me, what do you think will be the future outlook of your products and the company in general?
Yes, the future will be to decrease the sugar as we see that the people are more aware of the carbohydrates and they want to reduce reduce it in the daily life.
So the future in snacking is going to become like more trends.
Trendy anyway, the less sugar content will be something that the people will be really happy to find more in the product, so we are focused on decreasing the carbohydrates and keeping the natural ingredients in the product.
Nice.
Thank you for speaking to us.
