Bipartisan US Dietary Supplement Caucus relaunches with focus on regulation and access
A bipartisan and bicameral group of US lawmakers has re-established the Congressional Dietary Supplement Caucus in the 119th Congress, a move applauded by four leading trade associations representing the dietary supplement industry.
The American Herbal Products Association, Consumer Healthcare Products Association, the Council for Responsible Nutrition, and United Natural Products Alliance have collectively expressed their support for the caucus’ relaunch.
As a formally registered Congressional Member Organization, the caucus will provide a platform for lawmakers to delve into the science, regulation, and public health role of dietary supplements.
The Dietary Supplement Caucus is designed as a nonpartisan forum where Members of Congress and their staff can hear from scientific experts, healthcare practitioners, and industry stakeholders.
Educational briefings, where the caucus will serve as honorary co-host, aim to provide up-to-date information on issues affecting the supplement sector, ultimately helping to inform balanced policymaking.
The first briefing of the caucus will be on July 23, 2025.
Addressing regulatory burdens
In their filing to the House Committee on Administration, the required step for formal caucus registration, Dietary Supplement Caucus co-chairs Mike Kennedy and Marc Veasey affirm the group’s mission.
They state the caucus would “discuss…the benefits of dietary supplements, provide tips and insights for better health and wellness, and promote research into the healthcare savings these products provide.”

They add that the caucus seeks to enhance Congressional attention to the role supplements can play in disease prevention and address unfair regulatory burdens.
“Utah has played a major role in the dietary supplement industry, and that leadership deserves to be represented in Congress,” says Kennedy. “This caucus is a way to support thoughtful discussion around health while ensuring people have the freedom and information they need to make choices that work for them — without being burdened by unnecessary regulatory hurdles.”
Veasey adds: “The Dietary Supplement Caucus provides a unique opportunity for bipartisan cooperation on issues that matter to millions of Americans. From public education to regulatory transparency, this forum will help Congress engage more meaningfully with an industry that touches households across the country.”
The caucus will likely focus on modernizing the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act, expanding the eligibility of dietary supplements under Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts, and advocating for increased FDA resources for oversight and enforcement during the 119th Congress.
