“Ultimate party recovery” supplement features Kyowa Hakko’s detoxifying antioxidant ingredient
22 Jun 2023 --- Rebound Recovery is unveiling a supplement to help recover from parties and alcohol use featuring Kyowa Hakko’s Setria Glutathione – an antioxidant and detoxifier. The recovery packs include 50 nutrients, amino acids and botanicals to enhance the body’s ability to recover and replenish its reserves.
Rebound’s party recovery packs work in a preparation and repair phase. Before an event, consumers take two capsules with water that provide liver and immune support, enhance energy production and optimize cognitive function.
The same capsules are taken after the event, while an additional one helps to promote mood balance and sleep quality.
“Rebound chose Setria as one of the key ingredients for their recovery packs as Setria Glutathione is an excellent antioxidant and detoxifier which supports the body’s natural defenses and detoxification processes,” Oksana Ritchie, head of marketing, Kyowa Hakko Europe, tells Nutrition Insight.
“It helps the body to eliminate toxins. It supports the function of your liver, kidneys, GI (gastrointestinal) tract and intestines – the body’s major detoxification pathways.”
Antioxidants play a significant role in the body’s recovery from alcohol, notes Ritchie. Glutathione supplementation supports the recovery process after parties or excessive alcohol consumption.
“When we consume alcohol, it undergoes metabolism in the liver, which can lead to the production of harmful free radicals and oxidative stress. Antioxidants help counteract the damaging effects of these free radicals and support the body’s natural detoxification processes.”
Moreover, supplementation can help replenish the body’s glutathione levels which are depleted through alcohol metabolism, making it more vulnerable to oxidative stress and cellular damage.
“Glutathione aids in the breakdown and elimination of alcohol byproducts, helping to alleviate the toxic effects on the liver,” she continues. “This detoxification function of glutathione can assist in clearing alcohol-related toxins from the body more efficiently.”
Earlier this year, Chinese researchers developed a probiotic that reduces alcohol absorption, prolongs alcohol tolerance and shortens recovery time after alcohol exposure in mice.
Detoxification molecule
Ritchie notes that glutathione is a tripeptide composed of cysteine, glycine and glutamate. It is an antioxidant and detoxification molecule found naturally in the body. “However, the oral absorption of conventional glutathione supplements can be limited.”
The antioxidant also helps maintain a healthy balance in the body with other antioxidants such as vitamins C and E, she continues.
Setria Glutathione is available in various forms and products, including oral supplements, creams, and topical applications.
Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency as a health ingredient, making it the only glutathione approved in the country for use in supplements and functional foods.

Kyowa Hakko produces Setria Glutathione through an innovative fermentation process that preserves the natural structure and activity of the glutathione molecule.
“This process ensures high purity and quality, allowing for optimal bioavailability and absorption in the body,” continues Ritchie.
“Setria Glutathione has been specifically designed to enhance its bioavailability, meaning it is more readily absorbed and utilized by the body than conventional glutathione supplements. This improved bioavailability ensures that a greater proportion of the supplemented glutathione reaches target cells and tissues.”
“Clinical studies have demonstrated that Setria Glutathione supplementation can increase glutathione levels in the body, which may have various health benefits. These include supporting immune function, promoting liver health, supporting cellular function and assisting in overall detoxification processes.”
Researchers have also linked higher levels of glutathione in the brain to better and steady performance in motivation tasks, suggesting that nutritional interventions that target critical oxidative processes could improve motivational performance.
