Tropical topical solutions: Givaudan Active Beauty launches botanical extract collection for skin
06 Dec 2019 --- Givaudan Active Beauty has unveiled RitualEssenz Brazil, a botanical extract collection rooted in Brazilian biodiversity. The new collection is a set of pure guarana, mate and jambu extracts, which provide topical solutions for boosting energy, stimulating the immune system and relaxing muscles. This range offers traceable solutions from crop to jar and develops sustainable agriculture and forest management by supporting local communities.
“This new addition to our portfolio is in symbiosis with our natural, clean and sustainable approach,” says Melanie Duprat, Category Manager at Givaudan Active Beauty. According to company research, 52 percent of people globally take the ingredients’ origin and environmental impact into consideration when they buy personal care products. Additionally, 92 percent of consumers show interest in clean beauty concepts for skincare products.
The collection is made of three pure extracts coming from Bahia, Paraná, São Paolo and Santa Catarina:
Guarana: A high source of energy that increases mental alertness, fights fatigue and helps elevate mood. It is richer in caffeine (9-11 percent) than coffee beans (1-2 percent).
Mate: A rich source of antioxidant activity vitamins and minerals, which stimulates the immune system and is a good source of phenolic phytoactives. It can be easily used in skincare and haircare formulas.
Jambu: Considered a natural botox as it can act as a local anaesthetic and mild muscle relaxant. It is rich in spilantol (10 percent).
Called "lungs of the world", the Brazilian forest is one of the biggest natural resources in the world. RitualEssenz Brazil’s extracts are available in eye contour creams, (energizing) shampoos, day and night creams, as well as “slimming jellies” cream applications.
Active in beauty
Currently, Givaudan is including more natural ingredients in its portfolio to address consumer demand for organic, sustainable personal care products. With the appeal of botanicals accelerating, Givaudan Active Beauty launched a new botanical skincare concept designed for Gen Z consumers, which can help consumers achieve “Instagrammable skin,” the company notes. The release of My Blue Guard High Defence is a bid to tap into the “clean beauty” trend, as it contains 95 percent natural ingredients.
Also tapping into the sustainability trend, Givaudan released a hair care ingredient made from wheat as a sustainable alternative to cationic guar. The new ingredient, Naturein Wheat Peptides, is sourced from 100 percent French-origin locally-sourced wheat.
Moreover, in alignment with Givaudan’s 2020 strategy to globally expand its capabilities in botanical active cosmetic ingredients, Givaudan’s Active Beauty division is set to acquire the cosmetics business of Indena. Givaudan also entered into a long-term partnership with South Korean beauty innovation company Bio FD&C. The collaboration aims to combine the R&D know-how of both companies for the creation of anti-aging cosmetic ingredients, expanding the former company’s reach into the Asian market.
