Suanfarma's growth spree: New US facilities bolster organic botanical ingredients expansion
11 Sep 2023 --- With the recent inception of two new facilities in the US, one in New Jersey and the latest in Utah, life science specialist Suanfarma will expand its organic certified botanical ingredients along the West Coast.
The new facility has a 50,000 square meters storage facility and 9,000 square meters of refrigerated storage, allowing the company to meet the USDA Organic Fair for Life (FFL) certifications, which Suanfarma obtained for both facilities.
“We are increasing our organic FFL ingredients line, including ashwagandha extract, banaba leaf extract, organic cinnamon powder, melissa (lemon balm) extract, tart cherry powder, organic turmeric powder, organic ginger powder and many others,” says Tammy Walton, business development manager at Suanfarma USA.
Earlier this year, the company opened a new subsidiary for its nutra division in Birmingham, the UK, to grow its nutraceutical business and leverage the existing work of its companies, Gonmisol and Monteloeder.
Wellness brands included
In addition to the organic FFL line, US customers will benefit from Suanfarma’s wellness range, including Metabolaid, Move!Plx and RelaxPlx. They will also have access to the beauty-from-within line with Nutroxsun, Zeropollution and Eternalyoung.
FFL certification requires the company to be socially responsible, environmentally sustainable and endorse ethical supply chain practices. Suanfarma suppliers undergo a rigorous evaluation process that guarantees high-quality ingredients. Suanfarma’s US clients will have access to the full spectrum of its herbal and botanical ingredients.
“We believe fair trade should apply to the entire supply chain. This requires ensuring everyone involved in the process is fairly treated and that environmental considerations are paramount. This ensures Suanfarma can offer trusted organic ingredients,” Walton explains.
Last year, Suanfarma acquired a majority stake in Monteloeder, in a move set to expand R&D across the nutraceutical sphere.
Striving for an ethical supply chain
Suanfarma’s main supplier provides comprehensive support to its farmers, from supplying cultivation materials to ensuring the dispatch of harvested produce after primary processing on the farm. Field officers regularly visit the farms to supervise and provide technical and financial assistance.
“A transparent and ethical supply chain is vital to all stakeholders, and we are committed to continue making a positive and lasting impact on society and the world we share,” says Walton.
The company upcycles solid herbal waste into vermicompost to help fertilize neighboring farms and gardens. The effluent water is treated and used for gardening and there are multiple dust collectors in all operations to minimize pollution and enhance worker safety.
Meanwhile, the company appointed Anthony Weston as CEO at Suannutra, the company’s nutraceutical division, to enhance its presence in the global nutraceuticals market through strategic focus, product innovation and brand development.
