Suanfarma expands its nutraceutical business with a new subsidiary in the UK
02 Feb 2023 --- To grow its nutraceutical business and leverage the existing work of its companies, Gonmisol and Monteloeder, ingredient manufacturer Suanfarma is opening a new subsidiary for its nutra division in Birmingham, the UK.
The move will allow the company to serve its UK customers directly, rather than through its locations in Spain.
Maria Ángeles Gutiérrez Montero, head of market development for the nutra division at Suanfarma, tells NutritionInsight that the new location will allow the company to adapt its portfolio to the needs of its clients and improve its services and customer care.
The new location allows Suanfarma to strengthen its services to its UK customers, as “recent world events have caused problems in the supply chain, including delivery times,” says Montero.
UK nutraceutical industry
The UK is one of the leading markets for nutraceutical ingredients where natural solutions are in high demand, according to Montero. Suanfarma wants to “contribute to the innovative environment that the UK nutraceutical industry is so proud of.”
Suanfarma is in the “last stages of development of new branded ingredients for beauty-from-within, chronic pain and cognitive health.”
Montero explains that the company is enhancing its current portfolio and focusing on botanical extracts based on a tradition of use, driven by R&D to ensure science-backed evidence. Such as Relaxplx, a lemon verbena extract, which she says is “scientifically proven to help with insomnia and mood.”
The new subsidiary aims to expand Suanfarma’s UK nutraceutical business.Suanfarma’s Nutra division director Miguel Poza, states that the new subsidiary will help the company better understand its customers’ needs.
“By becoming a local partner, we are strengthening our business relationship based on trust, reliability, supply chain management and proactivity.”
The new subsidiary will also include local warehousing for the UK market. The warehouse will hold various products, including ingredients for supplement brands, alpha lipoic acid, key amino acids, collagen, immunity solutions and caffeine. Suanfarma’s warehouses in Spain will supply additional products.
International ambitions
Montero further states that the next objective in the company’s international expansion is to “become a reference in ingredients of innovative botanical origin and with high-quality standards.” .
Suanfarma also aims to address market trends and expand its existing industrial capacity, noting that since its beginnings in 1993, the company has continuously expanded its international operations.
Recently, the company acquired a stake in Monteloeder to increase its nutraceutical product offering and R&D. It also partnered with Solvay to expand its natural ingredient production within the EU.
