- The approval supports Ovolux’s positioning as a science-backed beauty-from-within ingredient for brand owners targeting the Canadian nutricosmetics market.

Stratum Nutrition’s eggshell membrane ingredient for beauty-from-within applications, Ovolux, has achieved authorization for multiple skin health claims from Health Canada.
Manufacturers using the ingredient can use claims that Ovolux helps to improve, increase, and support skin hydration, elasticity, firmness, and health.
The company says the new approval builds on the ingredient’s global regulatory standing and gives more opportunities for brand owners in the Canadian market to support skin health.
“Health Canada’s authorization of these claims represents another important milestone for Ovolux and validates the growing body of science supporting eggshell membrane as a unique beauty-from-within ingredient,” says Arun Nair, chief commercial officer of Stratum Nutrition.
“As consumer demand for clinically supported skin health solutions continues to grow, Ovolux offers brands an innovative, sustainable ingredient that addresses key aspects of skin appearance and health.”
Natural bioactive compounds
The ingredient naturally contains collagen types I, V, and X, and is an ultra-low dose ingredient derived from eggshell membranes. The company says it also contains other bioactive compounds supporting skin health, including hyaluronic acid and elastin.
In a clinical trial conducted by Stratum Nutrition last year, the results showed that the product offers “significant broad-based improvements” in critical biomechanical skin properties, including elasticity, firmness, and viscoelasticity, when compared to a placebo.
The company previously told us that Ovolux uses an unhydrolyzed form of eggshell membrane, allowing the body to gradually break it down and absorb its building blocks — many of which naturally decline in the skin with age, including multiple collagen types, elastin, and hyaluronic acid.
“The Health Canada approval strengthens Stratum Nutrition’s commitment to delivering science-backed ingredients that meet the evolving needs of consumers and product developers worldwide,” the company notes.
Earlier this week, Nutrition Insight sat down with multiple industry experts to discuss the latest trends in skin care from within, which commonly noted collagen to remain a key ingredient amid a shifting nutricosmetic landscape.
