Spirited Paw introduces probiotic pet supplement for immunity, healthy digestion and fresh breath

Spirited Paw — a Standard Process brand — introduces its prebiotic, probiotic and postbiotic blend to support digestive and immune health for cats and dogs. Dubbed Probiotic + Gut Health, the scientifically backed supplement is designed to nurture a pet’s microbiome, enhance immune function, support digestion and promote fresh breath. 

Probiotic + Gut Health features ingredients such as live probiotic strains Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium animalis, probiotic yeast Saccharomyces boulardii and postbiotic EpiCor — a postbiotic known for its immune-supporting properties.

Complementing EpiCor, inulin serves as a natural prebiotic to feed the gut microbiome. Natural fiber psyllium husk is also added to normalize stool consistency.

“Similar to Standard Process human supplements, our mission with Spirited Paw is to positively change the lives of pets,” says Katrina Verdeur, product development manager for Pet Products at Standard Process. “There is the general understanding that probiotic products can positively benefit the health of dogs and cats.”

“However, different strains of probiotics have different effects. We are excited to bring forward a probiotic solution formulated with strains specifically researched in dogs and cats, at potencies required to address immediate gut health needs, encourage a healthy inflammatory response, and promote long-term wellness.”

Live probiotic formula

Probiotic + Gut Health provides over seven billion CFU of probiotics per capsule at the time of manufacture.

The capsule format was selected to enhance the protection of the live probiotic bacteria strains as well as give pet owners the flexibility to serve the capsule or open the capsule and sprinkle the contents over their pet’s meal.

The Probiotic + Gut Health formula also features organic buckwheat extract, cultivated at Standard Process’s own MOSA-certified organic farm.

Standard Process claims Spirited Paw pet supplements are crafted in the same facility and held to the same rigorous standards as its human supplements.

Rising focus on quality pet health

Speaking with Nutrition Insight on its latest market analysis, ingredient supplier ADM recently underscored that pet owners increasingly view their pets as family, driving up demand for high-quality nutrition, preventative care and mental stimulation.

In other pet sector developments, Beneo recently introduced a low-glycemic syrup for pet food applications, including semi-moist and moist products or snacks. Derived from sugar beet, BeneoCarb S is branded a natural alternative to traditional ingredients such as glucose syrup or caramel, appealing to health-conscious pet owners.

Last month, General Mills acquired Whitebridge Pet Brands’ North American premium Cat Feeding and Pet Treating business from NXMH in a transaction valued at US$1.45 billion. The business, which includes the Tiki Pets and Cloud Star portfolio of brands, is active in these segments.
