Seppic acquires EPI France to bolster nutricosmetics market position
04 May 2021 --- France-based Seppic is acquiring EPI France to secure growth opportunities and solidify its position in the nutricosmetics market. The move will boost Seppic’s expertise and know-how in botanical extraction and its position as a supplier of high-quality ingredients.
EPI France develops and manufactures active ingredients of natural origin for the nutricosmetics and cosmetics markets.
With the transfer of know-how and EPI’s internal production tools, Seppic optimizes the entire process of research, development and industrialization, from the extraction of raw materials to the active ingredients.
“This acquisition opens up new growth opportunities for Seppic in the cosmetics and dietary supplements markets,” says Jean Baptiste Dellon, CEO of Seppic.
“We are very pleased to welcome EPI France teams to Seppic. Our long-standing relationships, our expertise, quality and customer care, which we share with EPI France, will allow us to quickly realize synergies for the development and marketing of new ingredients.”
A family affair
EPI France, which is short for Extraction Purification Innovation France, is a French family-owned company and has been collaborating with Seppic for years.
EPI’s employs a high level of quality and performance when manufacturing its ingredients and this is apparent via its one of its flagship ingredients, Ceramosides.
Its oral and topical efficacy on skin beauty has been scientifically proven and validated by clinical studies, EPI says. Seppic has been distributing this ingredient for over ten years.
Flourishing nutricosmetics market
The nutricosmetics market represents between US$6 and US$7 billion in 2020 on a global scale, with a growth rate of 8 to 10 percent per year, supports Seppic.
“This dynamism echoes the rise of the holistic beauty concept and the strong demand from consumers who are increasingly looking for food supplements that combine effectiveness, quality and naturalness,” the company notes.
Indeed the space is seeing fast growth, with multiple partnerships, new ingredient launches and acquisitions.
NutritionInsight previously reported on this market and spoke with cosmeceuticals experts, who discussed what ingredients are trending and how ingestible beauty is impacting the market.
Recently, Nexira argued that nutricosmetics are at “the brink of revolution” as it unveiled its NutriBeauty Range for skin, hair care and anti-aging.
Meanwhile, L’Oréal and Dutch company Micreos are combining their expertise in biotechnology to explore skin microbiome therapeutics.
Symrise and bioengineering company Probi are also cooperating to deliver probiotic-based cosmetic ingredients.
