Royal Canin launches fresh therapeutic dog food for gut health and sensitivities
Key takeaways
- Royal Canin launched its first fully cooked, fresh therapeutic dog food line for conditions such as gut issues and food sensitivities.
- Sold exclusively through veterinarians, the lineup features specialized low-fat, single-protein, and appetite-stimulating options.
- The launch reflects a growing “humanization” of pet nutrition trend where owners apply their own health and wellness standards to their pets.

Royal Canin has launched Royal Canin Fresh Veterinary Diets — its first fully cooked therapeutic diet portfolio sold exclusively through veterinarians in the US. The line is formulated to support dogs with specific health conditions, including gastrointestinal needs, food sensitivities, and reduced appetite.
With “therapeutic precision” that targets a dog’s clinical needs and pet owner feeding preferences, the Mars-owned brand designed Royal Canin Fresh Veterinary Diets to offer complete and balanced nutrition in a fresh format.
“Nutrition is one of the most powerful tools we have to support dogs managing chronic illnesses,” says Dr. Brent Mayabb, global chief medical officer at Royal Canin. “When it comes to choosing diets, pet owners want to have options that align with their preferences.”

“Our new Fresh Veterinary Diets give veterinarians a highly effective, science-backed fresh diet that bridges what owners want to feed with delivering the precise therapeutic nutrition their dogs need.”
Product lineup
The new products are available through participating veterinary practices and online pharmacy partners. The brand offers educational resources about its products to veterinary professionals and pet owners through its network and professional platforms.
The lineup includes Royal Canin Fresh Veterinary Diets Gastrointestinal Low Fat, which is Royal Canin’s lowest-fat fresh formula, designed to support dogs requiring fat-restricted nutrition, including those with fat sensitivities and digestive disorders.
Royal Canin Fresh Veterinary Diets Selected Protein Pork is a highly digestible, single-animal-protein diet formulated for dogs with certain food sensitivities and adverse food reactions.
Royal Canin says its Fresh Veterinary Diets Appetite Stimulation is a “highly palatable,” nutrient-dense formula tailored to support dogs experiencing reduced appetite, recovery from illness, or unintentional weight loss.
“Veterinarians are having more conversations than ever with pet owners about fresh feeding approaches, particularly when managing a dog’s health condition,” says Jennifer Cullen, general manager of the US Veterinary Business Unit at Royal Canin North America.
“Royal Canin Fresh Veterinary Diets give veterinary professionals new therapeutic options that combine the fresh, fully cooked format pet owners are seeking with the nutritional precision and scientific expertise that defines Royal Canin.”
Dietary approaches supporting veterinary care
According to Royal Canin, the fresh canine food portfolio launches as nutrition continues to play an increasingly important role in veterinary medicine.
The “humanization” of pet nutrition — in which pet food and supplements increasingly reflect human-grade produce or quality standards — has been a theme addressed by key suppliers in the space. , ADM, Beneo, and Vitalus previously told Nutrition Insight that this trend shapes industry developments, as pet owners increasingly apply their own wellness standards to their pets.
Royal Canin adds that recent consensus guidance on chronic inflammatory enteropathy in dogs reinforces the importance of dietary management in veterinary care. These protocols are endorsed by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
Guidance includes complete dietary treatment trials as part of diagnostic and therapeutic protocols for clinically stable dogs.
