No pain, just gain: Arjuna Natural unveils fast-acting pain reliever for post-workout aches
04 May 2022 --- A study backed by natural extract manufacturer Arjuna Natural is revealing the company’s post-workout Rhuleave-K item offers rapid acute musculoskeletal pain relief across multiple body parts.
Rhuleave-K taps into the growing post-workout recovery category. The product combines turmeric extracts (Curcuma longa) and frankincense (Boswellia serrata). The formula is bound by a black sesame oil base, which Arjuna touts as an effective carrier and wellness-enhancer.
“We developed Rhuleave-K to offer consumers a natural and safe botanical aid that can deliver an immediate pain alleviation effect. Turmeric root and frankincense gum resin naturally harbor a range of biological actives and have been used for centuries in traditional medicines to relieve joint pain and inflammation,” says Benny Antony, joint managing director for Arjuna.
Acute musculoskeletal pain primarily occurs due to overexertion in sports or other strenuous activities like lifting weights, brisk walking or running and can be a prime cause of discomfort and overall undermine the quality of life.
According to Arjuna Natural, joint and muscle pain continues to be one of the most common causes of hospital visits, and demand for over-the-counter pain relievers is growing.
“Consumers are also increasingly turning to complementary medicine, including traditional herbal remedies and natural supplements for pain relief,” Antony notes.
“However, they tend to be slow-acting and can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks to take effect,” he adds.
This has driven innovators to rush to commercialize pain-relieving remedies found in nature, such as collagen peptides and cannabidiol. Last year Solabia-Algatech Nutrition rolled out a post-exercise remedy based on whole-algae complex.
Science-backed effectiveness
Arjuna’s Rhuleave-K effectiveness in providing rapid relief of acute musculoskeletal pain was tested in a new study published in the Journal of Applied Medical Sciences.
The study examined the effect of Rhuleave-K in 232 healthy individuals across India suffering from acute musculoskeletal pain of the head and neck, upper and lower limbs, trunk and general body following exercise.
Participants were given 1,000mg of Rhuleave-K in two softgels or a placebo.
While the placebo group reported no significant decrease in any of the five location categories of pain, the Rhuleave-K group reported fast pain recovery. Pain mitigation was recognized as early as 40 minutes following supplementation, with complete pain relief achieved between 160 to 216 minutes.
The fastest pain alleviation was reported in the head and neck areas. The slowest recovery was indicated by the participants suffering from pain in the trunk, specifically the chest, pelvis, abdomen and back. Rhuleave-K also improved the range of movement.
This study served as a follow-up to an analysis conducted in 2020 in which Rhuleave-K was shown to be equally effective in reducing pain as acetaminophen, commonly known as paracetamol.
Mighty turmeric
Arjuna Natural highlights that Rhuleave-K’s ingredients – turmeric root and frankincense gum resin – “naturally harbor a range of biological actives and have been used for centuries in traditional medicines to relieve joint pain and inflammation.”
The analgesic and anti-inflammatory action of turmeric is attributed to the active curcuminoid compounds that are believed to inhibit the multisensory receptors involved in pain mediation and stop inflammatory pathways, mainly Cyclooxygenase-2, an enzyme that promotes inflammation.
Arjuna Natural has previously assessed curcumin’s salubrious features on brain health.
