Lubrizol expands nutraceutical distribution in US with Palmer Holland deal
Lubrizol has secured a distribution partnership with Palmer Holland to expand the availability of its ingredient solutions for the nutraceutical, dietary supplement, and food and beverage market segments across the Northeastern US.
Palmer Holland is a North American specialty chemical and ingredient distributor of raw materials.
Lubrizol says the deal will help meet a growing demand for its core technology, microencapsulation. This technology optimizes ingredient delivery and bioavailability to ensure effective and enjoyable nutraceutical products.
“Recent clinical and consumer studies have affirmed the benefits of our microencapsulation technology in terms of taste and sensorial profile, along with absorption and bioavailability for our products, Lipofer and Magshape. We are excited to deliver our innovation to more consumers,” says Ricardo Pereira, senior director of Regional Business at Lubrizol.
“Our new partnership with Palmer Holland expands our reach, enabling our customers to create their next generation of innovation.”
Microencapsulated ingredients
The agreement with Palmer Holland covers Lubrizol’s portfolio of nutraceutical-branded ingredients manufactured in Europe. The microcapsules include Lipofer Iron, Magshape Magnesium, Zincnova Zinc, Curcushine Curcumin, Newcaff Caffeine, Lipophytol Phytosterol, and Lipocal Calcium.
“Lubrizol’s value proposition and focus on quality align well with Palmer Holland’s mission to source branded ingredients designed to meet the needs of tomorrow,” comments Bret Horace, Palmer Holland’s VP in Consumer & Life Sciences.

“With this partnership, we are addressing the needs of our customers by offering a best-in-class solution to assist in the creation of healthier, better-tasting nutraceutical products.”
Nutraceutical bioavailability
The bioavailability of nutraceutical ingredients is crucial to ensure product efficacy. Nutrition Insight recently discussed advanced delivery systems and complex formulations to enhance bioavailability with Lubrizol and other nutrition companies.
Earlier this year, Lubrizol shared clinical research insights backing the bioavailability of Magshape, the company’s magnesium microcapsules. The study suggested that a meltable supplement containing the mineral’s micronized and microencapsulated form outperformed other magnesium sources in bioavailability and digestive tolerance.
Lubrizol Life Science developed the “melt-in-your-mouth” powdered stick as a prototype in 2024 for on-the-go post-workout convenience. The orosoluble sticks deliver a dose of 250 mg of elemental magnesium in a 1.5 g powder sachet — the upper limit in a food supplement recommended by the European Food Safety Authority.
