Lehvoss Nutrition adds Ayurvedic extract to portfolio of Verdure Sciences’ natural ingredients

24 May 2021 --- Lehvoss Nutrition is adding Tinofend to its natural ingredient product range from Verdure Sciences. 

Tinofend is a proprietary Tinospora cordifolia extract that has been standardized to active polysaccharides and has been shown to improve immune function, antihistamine, adaptogenic and allergy support in clinical trials.

Tinospora cordifolia is a natural herbaceous vine from India. It is widely used in Ayurvedic medicine, which tackles various consumer demands, from improving their immune functions to providing allergy relief. 

Following Verdure Sciences’ distribution deal with Lehvoss Nutrition for Tinofend, NutritionInsight speaks with Teresita Rudà, head of brands and marketing, about how the Tinospora cordifolia product can provide “holistic healing of the body.”

“Lehvoss Nutrition sees in Tinofend a high quality, science-driven, branded ingredient, now part of the range of Verdure Sciences brands we distribute in Europe,” Rudà says.Tinofend is positioned as an all-natural healing ingredient for the body. 

Scientific research on Tinofend has shown that in reducing the symptoms of allergic rhinitis, white blood cell activity is stimulated, resulting in immune response regulation and the reduction of eosinophils – immune cells that release histamines. 

Recently, researchers also conducted a comprehensive review of Tinospora cordifolia extracts’ potential for immunomodulatory health benefits.

Versatile remedy 
Tinofend extract is primarily suitable for capsules and tablets. “However, this extract also has good dispersion in water, which may open opportunities for functional foods, teas, powder blends, RTD sachets and other liquid applications,” Rudà notes. 

“Tinospora cordifolia has a bitter and astringent taste, and it is often used with honey or ghee and typically taken with a meal. Liquid formulations could be a challenge and may require additional work from the flavor standpoint,” she adds.

Tinofend extract has similarities to Verdure Sciences’ other vital ingredients like WokVel, a Boswellia extract. 

“Furthermore, in combination with WokVel, it may offer a robust antihistamine and immune support solution through impact to both inflammatory and immune responses,” says Rudà.

“The main synergy is the quality, scientific research, traceability and sustainability initiatives, which are key assets for Verdure Sciences’ key ingredients, and this makes Tinofend a successful ingredient for Lehvoss from the start.”

The Ayurveda lifestyle has gained popularity across the globe. With different approaches to medicine and healing, Ayurveda has gained global consumers.

Tinofend has received much interest in Europe due to its natural healing composition.Ayurvedic practices and healing properties are gaining global traction. 

“Verdure Sciences have been promoting Tinofend for several years. Furthermore, Tinospora cordifolia has long been used in Ayurvedic medicine and is largely considered a Rasayana (rejuvenator) due to its adaptogenic benefits,” says Rudà.

Rudà notes the popularity of Ayurveda herbs. “You can find finished products containing Tinospora cordifolia across the globe.”

“Furthermore, Ayurvedic herbs and spices have an interesting approach to the protection of the body, gut health and also mental health, Rudà says.

Traditional Ayurvedic therapies have gained current research interest, and they are used globally in foods, dietary supplements and teas. For example, Boswellia gum gained recognition as a traditional Ayurvedic herb associated with the relief of arthritis and inflammation. 

Another Ayurvedic ingredient is ashwagandha, which was previously investigated in the fight against COVID-19.
