Euromed’s pomegranate extract Pomanox maximizes skin health, study reveals

24 May 2021 --- Pomanox, a pomegranate concentrate from Euromed, has been shown to improve various skin health parameters.

Andrea Zangara, director of scientific communications & marketing at Euromed, tells NutritionInsight: “Pomanox shows significant benefits for healthy aging in many health areas, for example, improved cardiovascular, metabolic and cognitive performances, improved hair growth and improved sports performances.”

The Eurecat Technology Center, a research company in Catalonia, found that the extract can minimize hyperpigmentation, attenuate oxidative stress caused by excessive UV radiation, promote skin resilience and alleviate skin dryness.

Throughout the study, the enhanced metabolism for collagen and hyaluronic acid was “highly significant,” alongside the potential skin brightening effect, demonstrated by significant inhibition of the tyrosinase enzyme, Zangara adds.

The results suggest that preventive and regenerative treatment with Pomanox may support skin health – whether in nutricosmetics, functional foods, beverages or pharmaceuticals.

Pomonax can reduce hyperpigmentation by decreasing melanin synthesis, the scientists found. 

Unique to skincare?
The ingredient may help maintain skin elasticity through its positive modulation of the collagen metabolism, as evidenced by the increase of pro-collagen type I and total collagen found among subjects supplemented with it.

Throughout the aging process, collagen levels in the skin decrease, which means that skin loses its strength and structure.Pomegranate is a rich source of polyphenols, which have antioxidant properties, inhibit pro-inflammatory enzymes and counteract oxidative stress.

“There are many cosmetic products based on pomegranate, but the real potential is not yet very clear,” Zangara notes.

“Moreover, Pomanox is standardized for active compounds that are increasingly recognized as promising anti-aging compounds. Therefore we wanted to investigate the potential benefits for one of the organs that suffer most during aging, the skin.”

Pomanox is a natural standardized pomegranate fruit concentrate extracted with an eco-friendly, water-only proprietary technology. It is available in organic form.

It is noteworthy that Euromed’s eco-friendly technologies are expanding with the company’s new production plant in Murcia, Spain. The pure-hydro process, a water-based extraction method, is in use at this facility. 

The extracts manufactured at this plant comply with worldwide Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) norms, international pharmacopeias and regulations. 

Feeding skin with botanical extracts
Botanical ingredients with skin health positionings have come into the spotlight as more consumers develop the understanding of “food as medicine.” Among relevant launches this year, Lycored’s ingestible tomato extract Lumenato was proven to help avoid collagen loss.

Additionally, Lycored’s polyphenol-rich dietary ingredient, Zeropollution, may improve the signs of skin aging, strengthen skin barrier function and counteract oxidative stress.
