Lallemand Bio-Ingredients has launched Re-Vaya, an ingredient addressing the growing demand for metabolic health, supporting balance through a health-optimization approach. The science-backed ingredient is launched at a time when demand for a typical weight loss narrative is shifting, reshaping the metabolic health landscape beyond single-target weight management.
Nutrition Insight sits down with Lallemand Bio-Ingredients’ Annie Tremblay, scientific affairs manager, and Marcia da Silva Pinto, category manager, to discuss the ingredient’s potential for metabolic health amid the GLP-1 era.
Tremblay says consumers are no longer looking for quick fixes that lead to a “back‑to‑zero” effect.

“Instead, they are seeking solutions that deliver sustained, long‑lasting benefits by addressing root causes. Re‑Vaya differentiates itself through a mechanism of action identified via human adipose tissue proteomics, offering a direct molecular insight into how real human fat tissue responds.”
An era beyond weight loss
Tremblay points to a “weight shift” trend in nutrition, highlighted by Innova Market Insights’ 2026 trends, where consumers are looking beyond weight management to overall metabolic health.
“They [consumers] look for overall wellness and feeling good about themselves. Re‑Vaya fits this shift by focusing on fat‑tissue quality, metabolic efficiency, and promoting metabolic balance by acting on the root cause of imbalance.”
She notes that emerging science highlights fat tissue as a regulator of whole‑body metabolism, and the new ingredient is positioned as one of the first to explicitly support adipose‑tissue function.
“Consumers want ingredients with transparent and reliable scientific platforms. The adipose‑proteomics results offer a novel, differentiating, and modern evidence framework, matching the current trend toward ‘mechanism‑first’ formulations,” says Tremblay.
Tremblay says consumers now want metabolic health rather than solely body-weight outcomes. She explains that, rather than surrogate markers, the mechanism is anchored in human belly‑fat proteomics — the analysis of all proteins inside a cell or tissue.
“Instead of relying on plasma biomarkers or animal models, Re‑Vaya is informed by proteomic analysis of human adipose biopsies, identifying shifts in proteins involved in fat oxidation, adipocyte resilience, mitochondrial function, and inflammation balance.”
This gives Re‑Vaya a mechanistic fingerprint directly in one of the main target tissues where metabolic imbalance occurs, she says. It also balances communication between immune and fat cells, she adds.
“Many ingredients target energy metabolism or immunity in isolation. Re‑Vaya supports both sides: metabolic activation (better fatty‑acid handling and mitochondrial efficiency) and reducing the level of inflammation in adipose tissue. This ‘dual‑axis’ is central to the current idea of metabolic health.”
Science of metabolic balance
Proteomics maps hundreds of proteins at once, offering a deeper view of how the body manages inflammation, metabolic balance, and energy use.
“Because proteins are doing the work inside our cells, measuring them gives a direct picture of what is happening inside the tissue,” explains Tremblay.
She further details that fat tissue is not just fat storage but an active metabolic organ that releases hormones, communicates with muscles and the liver, regulates inflammation, and controls energy use.
“So, when fat tissue becomes stressed or inflamed, metabolic balance deteriorates,” says Tremblay.
She further details the study methods Lallemand Bio-Ingredients used to obtain the results. Human volunteers provided belly‑fat biopsies before and after taking Re-Vaya for 28 days, and scientists then measured hundreds of proteins, revealing reduced immune-adipose communication distress signals and increased mitochondrial energy-utilization pathways.
“In simple terms, the way immune and adipose cells communicate is at the core of metabolic balance. When their conversation becomes distressed, metabolic imbalance sets in.”
“After taking Re-Vaya, there was an indication of a more balanced immune-adipose communication through a reduction in inflammatory stress markers and adipose distress signals. In parallel, mitochondrial energy pathways were upregulated, which suggests that cells are using fats to produce energy.”
Formulating with Re-Vaya
Re-Vaya is a highly versatile ingredient and can be incorporated into a wide range of dietary supplements and functional food formats, including capsules, powders, sachets, and chewables.
Re-Vaya is a highly versatile ingredient and can be incorporated into a wide range of dietary supplements and functional food formats.“To illustrate this versatility, we will be showcasing gummy formulations containing Re-Vaya at the Tasting Center during Vitafoods Europe in Barcelona, demonstrating both its ease of incorporation and its suitability for modern, experiential formats,” says da Silva Pinto.
She explains that the ingredient has been developed with today’s consumer expectations for transparency, responsibility, and trust in mind. This starts with a combination of high-quality fermentation-derived ingredients supported by clinical scientific evidence.
“From a responsibility perspective, Re‑Vaya is designed to fit into modern, mindful nutrition concepts, aligning with consumer demand for ingredients that provide consistency, quality control, and clear documentation to support transparent communication with consumers.”
“Our approach to metabolic health shifts the focus from managing end outcomes to restoring metabolic balance, which is the fundamental driver of long‑term, sustainable benefits,” concludes da Silva Pinto. “This innovative approach enables us to support customers in developing science-backed solutions for metabolic health.”
