Karallief introduces herbal blend supplement for “significantly improved” sleep as melatonin alternative
Herbal formula specialist Karallief has launched KaraCalm, a sleep and stress support supplement branded a “safe, natural alternative” to melatonin that is backed by clinical research.
KaraCalm demonstrated “significant improvements” in sleep quality and stress management in just 14 days, according to a 56-day randomized, double-blind, parallel, placebo-controlled study involving 60 healthy adults.
“KaraCalm represents a significant advancement in natural sleep support and stress management,” says sleep specialist Dr. Vrushali Gersappe, MD.
“Unlike synthetic alternatives, KaraCalm’s unique blend of standardized herbal extracts works with the body’s natural sleep mechanisms, offering a safe, long-term solution for better sleep and stress management,” he notes.
The herbal formula comprises valerian (Valeriana officinalis), purple passionflower (Passiflora incarnata), holy basil (Ocimum sanctum), jujube (Ziziphus jujuba), rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) and Nigella sativa (Nigella sativa).
Sleep support claims
By the end of the study, the survey respondents reported a 39% increase in total sleep time (gaining over two hours of sleep, versus a 6% decrease in the placebo group), a 70% decrease in the time needed to fall asleep (from 18 to five minutes) and a 42% decrease in the duration of nighttime wakefulness.
The study also found a 53% decrease in awakenings after first falling asleep and a 10% increase in sleep efficiency.
Gersappe adds that KaraCalm’s “remarkable results” in the clinical studies are backed by objective data points, including the Actiwatch sleep measurements and blood markers like cortisol and hs-CRP (stress-related inflammation markers).
“Very few dietary supplements are clinically studied and even the ones that are clinically studied usually only have subjective questionnaires and not objective data. This makes KaraCalm unique.”
Stress reduction factor
In terms of stress reduction, participants in the study reported a 40% decrease in perceived stress level scores, a 30% decrease in serum cortisol and a 64% decrease in stress-related inflammation markers (hs-CRP).
Karallief states that while sleep supplements can sometimes lead to unwanted side effects and potential dependency, KaraCalm offers a natural approach that supports the body’s inherent sleep and stress response systems.
“The recommended daily dosage of 500 mg has been clinically proven to produce meaningful improvements within two weeks of use,” it concludes.
In other launches, Karallief released its latest multi-herbal extract formula, KaraShield, earlier this year. The formula was granted a US patent and assessed in a randomized, double-blind clinical study to test its effectiveness in supporting a healthy immune system.
Karallief holds over 30 product patents, with nine granted and 21 pending.
In 2022, Karallief secured a US patent for Easy Climb, a new “fast-acting” herbal extract formula shown to relieve occasional joint discomfort by the US Patent and Trademark Organization.
