Givaudan to feature botanicals with proven benefits in functional foods at Vitafoods
23 Apr 2024 --- At the upcoming nutraceutical trade show, Vitafoods Europe (May 14–16), Givaudan will showcase its botanicals with proven benefits and superior taste in various functional foods, such as instant drinks and gummies. These solutions address the growing demand for immune support, urinary tract health, cognition, relaxation, energy and gut health.
“The nutra market is in the midst of a revolution, with a growing number of consumers seeking great-tasting food supplements supported by scientific research. Achieving a balance between efficacy and palatability is crucial,” says Amandine de Santi, ingredients portfolio director of taste and well-being Europe at Givaudan.
“Givaudan leverages its in-depth knowledge of taste to successfully address off-notes in active botanicals using our extensive range of masking and flavoring solutions. By sharing our expertise in taste and botanicals with our customers, we can co-create appealing consumer experiences that offer powerful benefits and satisfy the desire for great taste backed by sound science.”
Solutions throughout the day
At its stand at Vitafoods (G110), Givaudan will showcase concepts featuring solutions from the company’s portfolio, including ingredients for health, flavor and taste. These are designed to “ensure an optimal sensory experience and accompany consumers throughout the day.”
For the early morning, Givaudan will present an instant drink with a boost of natural caffeine from its guarana extract with a citrus flavor.
Its concept for midday is a refreshing peppermint-flavored gummy format that features Cereboost — Givaudan’s American ginseng, which has been demonstrated to support attention and memory.
Givaudan offers a relaxing experience for the evening with a Valerian-containing gummy with a black tea peach flavor.
Science and sourcing
Givaudan will also unveil the results of a clinical study on Pacran — the company’s whole cranberry ingredient for urinary tract health. This study demonstrates the ingredient’s efficacy and reliability.
Moreover, online Vitafoods visitors can explore the company’s digital platform, Health & Nutrition Hub, to explore the science and sourcing stories behind Givaudan’s botanicals, focusing on the company’s raw material selection and sustainable practices.
This hub showcases Givaudan’s portfolio of branded ingredients, illustrating their potential to help customers differentiate their end products and resonate with consumers.
Last year, the company also launched Customer Foresight — a proprietary futurescaping platform at the company’s Digital Factory in France. This platform can identify future shifts through big data, human expertise and AI, which will impact the F&B industry.
Botanical demand
Innova Market Insights data indicates a 5% average annual growth in launches for botanical and herbal supplements from July 2018 to June 2023. The market researcher links this growing demand to a shifting preference toward nature-derived products. Immunity, mind and mood health are essential focus areas for these supplements.
Botanicals benefit from a continued consumer demand for natural ingredients that are effective and healthy. At the same time, consumers look for products supported by science and are increasingly concerned about the sustainable sourcing practices of botanicals.
The American Botanical Council recently warned companies in the industry to be aware of adulteration, noting that this remains one of the biggest challenges.
