dsm-firmenich to illuminate postbiotics and proactive health at Supplyside West
28 Sep 2023 --- Functional ingredient provider, dsm-firmenich will present its latest strides in gut support, women’s wellness and cognitive performance innovations at Supplyside West in Las Vegas, US, from 23 to 27 October. The company has coined its trade show exhibition as “bringing progress to life.”
At the heart of the company’s trade show exhibition is its gut support innovation “Health from the Gut,” a platform that inspires the next generation of dietary supplement solutions in the rapidly growing gut health arena.
The company reports that the outfit’s recent acquisition of Adare Biome, an innovator in the postbiotics space, is set to boost the portfolio beyond human milk oligosaccharide (HMO) prebiotics and enzymes.
“We’ve reimagined the approach to innovation in the gut health space, combining multi-ingredient solutions, leading-edge scientific expertise and deep consumer insights to unlock the holistic health possibilities of the gut microbiome at every life stage,” explains Penny Antonopoulos, senior director of marketing and business development, dsm-firmenich.
“Our acquisition of Adare Biome is a recent example of our investment to progress in this field.
Switching up biotics and omega 3s
dsm-firmenich will leverage a proprietary bacterial combination Humiome Post LB featuring L. fermentum and L. delbrueckii, developed via Adare Biome’s patented Echo process.
The blend of bacterial strains has undergone more than 100 years of investigation in more than 40 scientific publications in the digestive and immune health space. The blend can be combined with prebiotics, probiotics and enzymes to create interesting new formulations in the dietary supplement sector.DSM-Firmenich will prominently feature innovations in gut support at Supplyside West.
In addition, dsm-firmenich will highlight its end-to-end capabilities across the spectrum of women’s health, such as its solutions for the motherhood journey and healthy aging. The company will present concepts centered around its life’sDHA, geniVida and Vertis CanolaPRO ingredients at its dedicated Women’s Health area.
For example, life’sDHA is a plant-based docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) omega 3 from algal oil that supports an infant’s brain and cognitive development during the first 1,000 days of life. Higher doses of DHA supplementation can also help to reduce the risk of preterm birth in women of childbearing age.
Supplement formulators could leverage Vertis CanolaPro and geniVida to deliver targeted nutrition for various life stages. For instance, the latter is clinically proven to reduce the frequency and intensity of menopause-induced hot flashes.
Keeping a cool head
With consumers focused on all aspects of brain health, such as cognitive performance, mood, mental well-being and sleep, dsm-firmenich’s portfolio addresses the foundational – nutrients the brain requires to function properly – to the functional nutrients that support cognitive performance like recall, attention and visual processing speed.
The company’s latest launch, life’sOmega 03020, a single-sourced algal omega 3 with the same EPA/DHA ratio naturally found in fish oil with double the potency, will feature at the trade show along with life’s O33-P100 powder, an EPA+DHA with significantly higher loading possibilities in gummies and other powdered formats.
Company experts will also be on hand to discuss the recent merger. “The formation of dsm-firmenich brings together two iconic companies to create an industry-defining business with an exceptionally strong innovation platform,” comments Eric Choban, head of North America, health, nutrition and care at DSM-Firmenich.
Earlier this year, dsm-firmenich announced the acceleration of initiatives to improve its vitamin performance in light of market challenges. The second quarter has seen a further weakening of the vitamin markets, predominantly impacting the performance of animal, nutrition and health and expectations for the year's second half.
