China International Import Expo: Aker BioMarine secures new partners for krill-based health products
10 Nov 2022 --- Aker BioMarine has signed new strategic partnerships with 18 Chinese organizations from the human health and nutrition and pet food industries at the China International Import Expo (CIIE), which ends today.
The producer of Antarctic krill-based products for human health and nutrition, aqua and pets conducted signing ceremonies to mark the new partnerships before an official Norwegian delegation representing the Norwegian Consulate General in China.
“China is the world’s second-largest importer and consumer in the world, and it is a key strategic market for Aker BioMarine,” says Thong Luu, SVP for Human Health & Nutrition Asia at Aker BioMarine.”
“We have solidified many long-term partnerships in the country, and the Expo is a great opportunity for us to officially declare our collaborations and progress in the Chinese market.”
Promoting krill’s health benefits
Aker BioMarine offered product samples at its CIIE stand while its representatives explained how krill is a superior source of omega 3 and choline for the human nutrition supplement market.
In July, a study conducted by CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, across three clinical trial sites in Australia, and sponsored by Swisse’s H&H Research, investigated the effects of krill oil on adults suffering from mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis (OA).
The six-month rigorously designed clinical trial concluded that Swisse High Strength Deep Sea Krill Oil (Superba Boost krill oil phospholipids) was safe to consume and resulted in improvements in knee pain, stiffness and physical function in adults with mild to moderate knee OA. Aker BioMarine is Swisse’s Superba Boos krill oil supplier.
“An additional interesting finding in the study was that the participants with the greatest level of inflammation at the start of the study were the ones that had the biggest pain improvement. It is great to have an alternative treatment, without side effects, for people suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee,” says Line Johnsen, VP of Science and Regulatory Affairs at Aker BioMarine.
Krill has also been identified as an effective ingredient for pet food, yielding clear health returns for domesticated animals.
The China International Import Expo
CIIE officially launched in 2018, an initiative from Chinese President Xi Jinping to support economic globalization in the country. The Expo is hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and took place this year at the National Convention and Exhibition Center in Shanghai.
Aker BioMarine has now participated in the event for a fourth consecutive year.
“CIIE is attended by hundreds of industry leaders and large organizations from around the world – and it’s a key event for us to promote our products to current and potential customers, officials, and consumers,” says Jim Wang, regional sales director for HH&N China.
