Bioiberica and Ryusendo to launch Collavant n2 collagen for joint health in Japan
Key takeaways
- Bioiberica has partnered with distributor Ryusendo to launch its joint health ingredient, Collavant n2, in Japan.
- The ingredient’s daily 40 mg dose utilizes oral tolerance to prevent the immune system from breaking down joint cartilage.
- Backed by clinical studies showing joint protection during exercise, the ingredient complies with Japan’s regulatory standards.

Bioiberica has launched its native (undenatured) type II collagen ingredient for joint health, Collavant n2, in Japanese nutraceuticals. The launch is facilitated through a partnership with local distributor Ryusendo.
Effective at 40 mg/day, the ingredient works through a mechanism of action called oral tolerance, turning off the body’s immune response against endogenous type II collagen to support cartilage health.
Collavant n2 is Bioiberica’s first branded nutraceutical ingredient to be launched in Japan, where it has already operated for more than 20 years.
“The decision to partner with Bioiberica was based on our confidence in the company’s commitment to quality, scientific rigor, and transparency,” says Yoshiaki Shiojima, president and CEO at Ryusendo.

“We will also leverage Ryusendo’s accumulated experience in clinical research, Foods with Function Claims notification support, and scientific communication in Japan to further enhance the value of Collavant n2 in the Japanese market.”
Protecting against joint discomfort
Bioiberica states that the Japanese market is ripe for innovation. However, it says the country’s strict safety, quality, and efficacy standards upheld by its Ministry for Health, Labor, and Welfare and Consumer Affairs Agency make the Japanese wellness arena notoriously challenging to enter, even for brands that are well-established in other parts of the world.
The company notes that Collavant n2 is approved for sale in Japan as it complies with all relevant food regulations in the country.
A clinical trial found that taking Collavant n2 could protect articular cartilage in healthy individuals experiencing joint discomfort during physical activity.Additionally, the source of native (undenatured) type II collagen is backed by seven scientific studies.
In a recent clinical trial, supplementation with 40 mg/day of Collavant n2 correlated with a significant decrease in cross-linked C-terminal telopeptide of type II collagen, which is a byproduct of collagen destruction and considered one of the most validated biomarkers of cartilage degradation.
The results suggest that taking Collavant n2 could help protect articular cartilage in healthy individuals experiencing joint discomfort during physical activity.
Antonio Vendrell, marketing and communications director at Bioiberica, adds that the company’s circular, fully traceable production also played a role in bringing Collavant n2 to Japan.
“Meeting the country’s stringent import and quality regulations requires complete transparency across the supply chain, an area where Bioiberica’s processes are well-placed to deliver.”
Innova Market Insights data suggests that 22% of consumers globally are including collagen in their diet for skin and joint health. Data from the global market researcher indicated supplement launches with collagen ingredients grew 7% from July 2020 to June 2025. Europe was the leading region for these launches, and more than half were for hair, skin, and nail supplements.
