Arjuna Natural’s botanical blend may help relieve the “relentless burden” of menstrual discomfort
31 Jul 2023 --- Arjuna Natural has created a novel botanical formula powered by turmeric (Curcuma longa L) and frankincense (Boswellia serrata), which alleviates menstrual cramps and relieves the painful symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea.
The blend, Rhuleave-K, is formulated in an oil base using proprietary Speedtech technology and has demonstrated potent analgesic activity in numerous clinical trials, specifically targeting musculoskeletal pain.
“The excellent results we witnessed in the previous studies on musculoskeletal pain inspired us to see if we can extend Rhuleave-K’s benefits to other common forms of pain,” explains Dr. Benny Antony, joint managing director at Arjuna Natural. “Menstrual pain is a relentless burden for countless women globally.”
“Many depend on over-the-counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to get pain relief. Yet more and more women are turning to natural therapies as they seek a comprehensive and enduring solution.”
Pain that does not discriminate
Menstrual pain is one of the most prevalent gynecological complaints affecting more than half of women in their reproductive age regardless of age or socioeconomic status.
According to the research, the pain is debilitating for many and disrupts their daily routine. This can lead to diminished work productivity, missed days at work or study or reduced sleep quality with knock-on effects for several days each month.
Primary dysmenorrhea, a condition within the menstrual spectrum, is characterized by intense and sometimes excruciating cramping that grips the lower abdomen and pelvic area. It surfaces in the first couple of days of menstruation and can last for up to 72 hours.
Proven effects through clinical trials
The most recent randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled study of the botanical blend was published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine last month.
Healthy women suffering from primary dysmenorrhea participated in the study conducted at the Smt. Meva Chaudhary Hospital in Jhansi, India. Only women reporting moderate to severe menstrual cramping were qualified to participate.
One group was allocated 1000 mg Rhuleave-K in two soft gels, while the other received a placebo. The participants were administered their assigned treatments only when the menstrual pain reached a severity of five or greater on a 0–10 rating scale.
The treatment group’s mean total pain relief was 12.6 times better than the placebo group, with a statistically significant difference every 30-minute time. Moreover, the overall difference in pain intensity following six hours of observation was 20 times better than the placebo group.
“Additional clinical trials are in the pipeline to further explore Rhuleave-K’s potential role in providing fast action menstrual pain relief and synergistic all-round support,” Antony concludes.
Meanwhile, the menstrual health supplement, Balance Beam Mood Complex by US-based Looni, entered the market to fill a “critical gray area in women’s health awareness.” While serving as a hormone stabilizer, the vegan capsules aim to provide fewer mood swings and cravings while easing the sense of irritability.
