ISM 2024: Bob Snail kids snack expands to sportspeople for a natural energy boost

Bob Snail, a healthy snack brand for children based on fruits and berries, is getting picked up by active consumers looking for an energy boost without added sugars. Mark Standish details the products’ premium positioning while maintaining a mid-range price point. Already present in 28 countries, the cartoon-branded treat is expanding into the UK market.

I'm here with Mark Standish, who's with Good Snacks, and he's here promoting the brand Bob's Snail.
So Mark, tell us about Bob's Snail.
Bob's Snail is a healthy kids snack brand that's being targeted.
Children, predominantly it's a natural product using only fruits and berries.
There's no added sugars or anything else that is added in there at all.
It's suitable for people with dietary requirements such as gluten-free.
Vegans can get the use out of it as that can be effective for them.
And we've been going since 2016.
We've now got presence in 28 countries globally, and things are moving on quite nicely for us at the moment, yeah.
So how does bob's snail stand out from other kids' snacks on the market?
So there's other, there's other products that we come up against in the market that are quite similar.
There's other good products in the marketplace as , and that offer similar claims to us in terms of 30 g of our dried fruit goes, contributes to one of your 5 a day.
There's other products in the market that do that.
Where we differentiate is that if we've got a specific flavor in our products, we use more of the premiumized ingredients that go in there, whereas some of the competitors will use say 1% raspberry, and the rest will be made up of apples, pears, and different fruits.
We use 20% of that flavor, and then the other one is made up of apples or pear basically.
With our mango roll products, a lot of Products on the market, we'll use 20% mango and then try and fill it up with other products in there as , which is still great products, all natural, same health benefits, but we use 100% mango, so you really do get the difference in flavor and it stands out in terms of the strength of flavor and the mango essence that you get from the products themselves.

Yeah, yeah.
So this is a premium product.
Yeah, it's a premium product.
It's the premium end for sure in terms of what we're doing personally, I work in the UK, so I'm responsible for the UK market currently.
We're trying to be competitive with the pricing, so we're sitting quite close to some of the less premium products on shelf pricing and below our premium.
While we still offer the premiumized ingredients and the actual products that we sell as , so we are trying to be as competitive as we possibly can with strange economic times that we are all going through at the moment as , but we do sit at the premium end of the market in terms of the ingredients and the offering and what the products are.
So what is the next move for Bob Snail?
The next move at the moment for Bob Snail for myself personally is to try and grow the presence in the UK marketplace.
There's a lot of interest that we're having conversations from various different people at the moment.
We've actually gone live with one of the national retailers in December and over January.
But we are also looking at how what we've noticed is that because of the health benefits and the nutritional information and content in the products themselves, a lot of people who we weren't marketing at in the first instance, which is kids and the child market, are adults, so we're getting people.
Health conscious we are eating them because they are all natural.
There are no sugars, no preservatives, no additives in there.
They are completely vegan friendly.
They are gluten friendly as , so people who have got the dietary requirements to do that are starting to use the products, specifically in Ukraine where we originated in Eastern Europe.
We are seeing a lot of people picking these products to use them for what they want to use them for a lot of times you see sports people eating chocolate.
Jaffa cakes, say, in the middle of a game to boost energy, because these products are absolutely ideal for that because it gives you a natural boost and natural sugars, so a lot of people are using it for sporting reasons as and health, health reasons.
So the next part is probably to unlock that side of the market and make people just raise the awareness for those people who are looking for those sort of products to let them know Bob, Bob Snail ticks those boxes for them as.
Do you have any explanation for that?
Do you think these are like parents who had their kids' snacks just around and then they started eating them?
Yeah, I think it could be.
Yeah, I think it's just in terms of the claims.
The claims are quite apparent.
We've got really sort of 4 really unique selling points in terms of it's only fruits and berries, no added sugar, 100% vegan, and then gluten-free as.
So I think when you just see those, they stand out and if it's something that's important to you, if you're health conscious, if you've got that.
Requirement, it'd gravitate to it quite easily when you see those, those, those markers and try it for yourself and it doesn't taste like a child's product in that respect.
It's still a lot of child's products that you'll taste.
I've got a 4 year old myself, so trying his purees when he when he was coming through, they weren't very tasty.
There wasn't much salt in there and things, but with the fruit content in these products, they're really tasty as , so they're for everybody.
Once you taste them, you enjoy them, and you can, you can use them on the way.
